Graham Shimell

After a few coffees discussing Morrissey's lyrics and the mutual appreciation of good acoustic music, Liam Davey and Graham Shimell began rehearsing together in the Spring of 2010 as Iridescence.
After performing covers at a number of open mic. nights across Cardiff, they began to write their own material. As the main vocalist Graham likes to improvise and use his voice like an instrument drawing from a wide range of influences such as blues and eastern music. Liam likes to use his acoustic guitar like a percussive instrument. Their music has been described as acoustic electronica and musical comparisons have included Portishead, REM, IAMX and Muse.
The theme for the first EP draws on the French Impressionist era in particular. Paul Verlaine, late nineteenth century poet, was the main catalyst behind this project. The songs are intended to emote a feeling or a mood through the use of imagery. Any meaning is vague as if one is trying to remember a dream. The slightly abstract stirrings of the lyrical poetry links in with music as form.
Iridescence are currently working on some new tracks with a second EP in mind.
