Biography
Nicky McCallan

Formed God Talking Soul in Strabane in 2000 with close friend Gerry Strawbridge and cousin Richie Montague resulting in reasonable national success and culminating in the band winning the Hot Press Unsigned Band Of The Year award 2002 and the Budweiser N.I. Unsigned Band Of The Year award in 2003. The band gigged extensively for 4 years and recorded 3 EPs and a live album recorded in Temple Bar Music Centre in Dublin. Deciding to go their seperate ways in 2004 Nicky relocated to Belfast and re-formed God Talking Soul with his brother Tim and bass player James Heaney. With an array of different drummers the band performed throughout 2005/06 and recorded the E.P. 'It's Only Funny Because You Said It' in Little Giant Studios in Belfast with Alan Lynn from acclaimed band, LaFaro on drums.
In early 2007 Nicky decided to once again break up the band and take things back to basics by taking time out for writing and perform on his own in solo shows throughout Northern Ireland.
He has now returned to the studio and is currently writing and recording the first full God Talking Soul album. Nicky has decided that there will never be any other permanent members of the band but with the help of a few friends and well known Northern Ireland musicians he is taking a different approach to the band's sound and is planning on the record being released by late 2009.

God Talking Soul will return soon

Praise for God Talking Soul

"Over the summer the band recorded their debut EP, It's Only Funny Because You Said Itthe record contained more than enough wit, energy and genuine feeling to suggest that there is much more to come from this lot."

Colin Carberry, Hot Press

"The EP is an excellent showcase of the band's strong sound, which fuses classic indie rock with a folk influence.
Several tracks stand out immediately on first listen, such as 'Desert Stop', with it's Smiths-esque riffs, the more folky 'Back Lawn Song' and 'Good Morning Your Highness', which is reminiscent of Jeff Buckley.
Nick McCallan has a terrific voice, occasionally sounding like a world-wearier Neil Finn.
However, it's the EP's final track which really shines. '6FT Friends' is a magnificent song - let's hope there's more good stuff to come from God Talking Soul!"

Kirsten McAlpine, The Big List

"God Talking Soul are one of the most professional and exciting new acts around"
Andrea McVeigh, Belfast Telegraph
