This is a tragic and heinous crime. Joe Frankulin, formerly of GOATLORD, a band active from 1985 -1997, murdered his 39-year old neighbor, kidnapped her 8-year-old son and took him to him home, killed him, then killed himself. This is the sort of crime that feels only possible within episodes of television shows, or in the darkness of our nightmares.

Neighbors have stated that they could tell something was wrong, that Frankulin was acting strangely in the weeks before this occurred. Nobody could've expected this would be the result.

This is also sparking some old debates about heavy music, about guns (though the mass shooting last week had already sparked that conversation) and about mental health (also sparked last week.) How can music be to blame for the actions of man? Its an easy target, yet turns us away from the actual problems. If a pop star committed these acts, would people blame the music? What's worse is that in the wake of tragedy, this seems to be some of the first words on our lips. Why?
