- Cornell Reddon

Glenn LaMonte Goins was a singer and musician for Parliament Funkadelic. His first (known) recordings were as part of the group "The Bags". They released a single in 1972 "It's Heavy" b/w "Don't mess with my baby".

Born and raised in Plainfield, New Jersey in a family of talented musicians, Glenn was a master vocalist with a strong, haunting gospel voice. He sang lead and some of Parliament's most memorable songs from 1975-77. Glenn was also featured prominently during the concert by getting the spotlight while singing 'swing down sweet chariot, stop, and let me ride' during "Mothership Connection", doing the lead for "Bop Gun" and much more. Goins was by far the best vocalist who ever worked with P-Funk, with a rich, powerful, soulful voice that had incredible range. He was also an excellent rhythm guitar player.

Glenn, Jerome Brailey, Darryl Dixon, Clay Lawrey, Valarie Drayton and Danny Cortez were one of the first of many musicians to leave Parliament Funkadelic in reaction to what was perceived as very bad management by band leader George Clinton. He helped form Quazar in 1978 as a renegade Funk outfit, which featured his younger brother Kevin Goins. Glenn also asked Darryl Dixon to join the band. Glenn produced and played on Quazar's debut album on Arista Records.

Glenn Goins career was tragically cut short on July 30th 1978 at age 24, when he died of cancer (Hodgkins Disease). But his contribution to P.Funk's popularity while he was with them is undeniable.
