Genau so dachte sich auch Gilbrecht Thomann, Countrymusiker aus Berlin. In Jeans, schwarzem Hemd mit Applikationen, schwarzem Stetson, dunkler Sonnenbrille (sein Markenzeichen) und den obligatorischen Westernboots, schaut er zwar wie ein typischer Countrysänger aus, doch: Gilbrecht ist anders als andere

Gilbrecht Thomann wurde 1946 in Dannenberg (Niedersachsen) geboren. Seine Liebe zur Musik fand er schon als junger Bursche und begann mit Geigenunterricht, den ihm sein Großvater erteilte. Als Gilbrecht 12 Jahre altwar, griff er lieber zur geliehenen Gitarre und ließ sich von Freunden die Grundakkorde zeigen, um sich dann das Spielen selber beizubringen. Bereits 3 Jahre später, mit 15 Jahren, trat er als Sänger und Gitarrist in seine ersteBand ein. Bis 1974 spielte Gil, wie ihn alle nennen, in mehreren Beatbands. Mittlerweile verheiratet, zog er aus beruflichen Gründen im Jahr 1976 nach Berlin und hängte die Musik vorerst an den Nagel. Erst 1994 - nach längerer Krankheit und aus wirtschaftspolitischen Maßnahmen arbeitslos - griff erwieder zur Gitarre und wollte einen Neueinstieg ins Musikgeschehen wagen. Das Schicksal wollte es aber, dass Gilbrecht - bedingt durch seine Krankheit - nur noch mit der Rhytmusgitarre arbeiten konnte und er änderte seine Musikrichtung von Rock'n Roll zu Country.
Gilbrecht spielte für Freunde und Bekannte, auf Geburtstagen und kleinen Feiern, performte auf seine ganz eigene Art bekannte Oldies und Countrysongs. Die Resonanz war groß und somit ließ er sich eines Tages überreden, in einer Berliner Karaokeebar aufzutreten. Trotz seines Alters (Gilbrecht feiert 2011 seinen 65. Geburtstag!!!), spornte ihn das weitere gute Feedback an und er begann, seine Songs auf CD zu brennen und an Freunde und Bekannte zu verschenken. Gilbrecht legte sich im Internetportal MySpace ein Profil an und auch dort wuchs nach und nach das Interesse an seiner Musik und seiner Persönlichkeit.
Eines Tages sprach ihn Ken Pulley, Songwriter und Countrysänger aus den USA an, ob Gilbrecht nicht Lust hätte, die Songs von Ken in Deutschland aufzunehmen. Gil sagte zu und erhielt von Ken 16 Songs, die er derzeit produziert. Zwei der Titel, nämlich "Jenny, Jenny" und "That's what love will do", wurden von seinen Fans sogleich mit überschwänglichem Lob angenommen.
Die Countryszene könnte somit um einen weiteren begabten Künstler bereichert werden, der zudem noch durch seine ganz eigene Interpretation der Songs überzeugt. Denn Gilbrecht versucht nicht "zu kopieren", er bezeichnet seine Musik als "Happy Country" oder auch "Country Light", denn der Künstler gibt mit viel Wärme und Gefühl in der Stimme, aber auch mit Kraft und Spaß jedem der Songs eine ganz besondere Note. Dennoch verändert Gil eigentlich niemals die typischen Grundelemente.
Gilbrecht nahm - teilweise sogar recht erfolgreich - an einigen Talent-Wettbewerben teil, wie zum Beispiel 2008 in Berlin bei "Stars over 40", wo er es von 600 Bewerbern bis ins Finale der letzten 15 Teilnehmer schaffte. Für den offenen Kanal in Berlin stand Gilbrecht erstmalig vor einer TV Kamera und performte nur zur Gitarre zwei Countrysongs. Auch als Schauspieler konnte sich der Sänger bereits erste Erfahrungen sammeln, als Gaststar und einmal als einer der Hauptakteure in einer täglichenTV-Doku-Soap! Seit neuestem moderiert er sogar seine eigene Countryshow bei einem Internet-Radiosender. - Das sind die kleinen Events, die ihm Spaß machen. Nur die typischen Castingshows lehnt er ab….da steht er lieber auf kleinen Bühnen und genießt den Applaus seiner immer größer werdenden Fangemeinde.
Wenn Gilbrecht nicht auf der Bühne steht oder Songs einstudiert, liebt er es zu kochen, gute Filme zu schauen oder einfach nur mit seinen Freunden abzuhängen.
Am 14. März 2010 stand er erstmalig bei der Countrymusicmesse in Berlin auf der Bühne. Für Gilbrecht wurde damit ein lang gehegter Traum Wirklichkeit.
Und auch sein erstes Album "What love will do" hat nicht nur seine Fans, sondern auch viele weitere Freunde der Countrymusik sehr positiv überrascht! Alle Songs auf diesem Album wurden von Gilbrechts amerikanischem Freund Ken Pulley geschrieben und komponiert. Das Album gibt es - neben einigen Coversong-CD's - direkt auf der HP zu bestellen.
Am 28. Januar 2011 hat Gilbrecht sein "Cowgirl" Chrissie geheiratet und die beiden haben sich samt Hund und Kater aufgemacht, um sich in ihrer neuen Heimat Ungarn, im kleinen Dorf Hegyesd (am Plattensee), in einem gemütlichen Häuschen niederzulassen. Dort widmet sich Gilbrecht auch - neben Gartenarbeit und ausspannen - weiterhin seiner grossen Liebe: der Musik.

That's what Gilbrecht Thomann, Countrysinger from Berlin, told himself. Wearing his black jeans, his black Cowboy shirt, his Stetson, his black sunglasses (his trademark) and for sure the Westernboots, he may look like a typical Countrysinger, but Gilbrecht is not like the others.

Gilbrecht was born 1946 in Dannenberg (Niedersachsen/DE). He found his love for the Music already as a real young kid when is grandpa teaches him how to play the fiddle. At the age of 12, Gilbrecht changed the fiddle against the borrowed guitar of friends and made himself familiar with the main chordals. And than he teached himself to play the guitar. Already 3 years later, now at the age of 15, this young guy became member of a Band, supporting them as singer and playing leading guitar. Until 1974 Gil – like his friends call him – played in different Beatbands. Meanwhile he got married and than professional causes drove him to Berlin, where he went to in 1976. That time, he abandoned the music for the present, not till 1994.
After a long disease and because of his economic unemployment, he decided to "get back to his roots" and to take a second chance to find back to the Music. But the destiny left its barricade – because of his disease – and so he had to hark back to the Rhythm-guitar… and changed the bearing from Rock'n Roll into Country.
Gilbrecht played for his friends and buddies, on birthday parties and all kind of small celebrations; performed in his own style well known Oldies and Country songs. The Feedback has been real huge and that's why his friends could persuade him to perform in a Karaoke bar in Berlin. In spite of his age (Gilbrecht is celebrating his 65th birthday this year!) the positive Feedback gave him back his courage and Gil started to put "his" songs on CD's as gifts for his friends. In the Internet on MySpace he created an artist account and each day he got more new friends there, which loved his music and his personality.
One day, one of his MySpace friends, Ken Pulley, Songwriter and Country singer from the USA, which fell for his voice, asked him, if he would love to record some of Ken's songs in Germany. For sure Gil agreed and Ken sent him 16 songs, which are currently in Production for Gilbrecht's first Album. Two of those titles, „That's what love will do" and „Where do we go from here", found immediately hug plaudit.
The Country scene thus could be added with a further talented artist, which besides convinces with his real particular Interpretation of singing Country music, for Gilbrecht don't try to copy this traditional music or the songs. He characterizes his kind of sings as "Happy Country" or "Country Light", cuz the artist is able to give each of the songs a real special note, with his vocal heat and feeling. But as well as power and mostly fun; anyhow, Gilbrecht does never change the typical "roots".
Gilbrecht took part in some talent contest – quiet successful – like in 2008 in Berlin's "Stars over 40", where he brought home the bacon to get into the 15 finalists, from 600 candidates! He also appeared on a TV Show in Berlin's private channel "ALEX" (ex. OK Berlin), where he performed unplugged to German Country songs or in company with his friend Johnny Berlin. Same as an actor he did his first steps, taking part as guest and once as one of the main actors in a daily documentation soap! Also his own Countrymusic Show is a part of a Webradio Station! – Those are the lill Events he is enjoying. Only the typical Casting shows Gilbrecht declines… he prefers to be on small stages and relishes the applause of his growing interest audience and fans. And if he is not on stage or working on new songs, he loves to be in his kitchen, preparing some good food, watching his fav movies or just hang up with his friends.
In March 2010 Gilbrecht took part at the Countrymusic Fair in Berlin, and made one of his biggest dreams come true!

On January 28th 2011, Gilbrecht married his Cowgirl Chrissie and with doggie "Crumb" and cat "Alex", they said "Bye bye" Germany and moved to beautiful Hungary.

AND: for sure Gil is still making music! His first Gigs in Hungary are already signed! - Also the Cowboy is celebrating his 50 year's on stage this year!!!
