Music became Gianna Hardt’s religion long before her teenage years. Her musical tastes were formed from an array of influences on the radio, namely Chicago House, Hip-Hop, Classic Rock, Pop, Italian and Latin Music. Gianna feels blessed to come from the musically-rich city of Chicago, and proud to have grown up on Chicago’s culturally-rich South Side, the birthplace of Chicago House and the city’s underground dance scene. The only musician in her family, Gianna spent her childhood having House dance battles with the neighborhood kids and making mix tapes from radio, cassettes and vinyl, idolizing Chicago House pioneers like Larry Heard.
Gianna went on to study classical guitar during her university years, playing auditoriums and festivals with her Guitar Ensemble and Latin Music Ensemble. Although Gianna was studying classical music, she found herself drawn deeper into electronic-music and the underground scene, which compelled her to buy her first set of Technics turntables. She felt at home behind the decks. Her formal training combined with her eclectic tastes and cultural background resulted in the most gratifying musical expression. Dancing and innovation were always of high importance to Gianna and continue to make her an electronic-music purveyor today. Gianna is drawn to music that is intense and emotive.
In 2004, Gianna founded Forté Productions, a Chicago-based event production company that dedicates itself to cultivating unforgettable, cutting-edge underground events. A relentless promoter and champion of the underground, Gianna has orchestrated an array of events around the city, playing alongside artists like Wolf + Lamb, Akufen, Mike Shannon, and LoSoul, among others. Moving forward into 2010, Gianna plans to continue bringing people together, exposing new audiences to a variety of artists and styles of music at unique underground spaces.
In addition to her underground appearances, Gianna has performed at Hawaii Electronic Music Festival, Smartbar, Lava, Oslo, Redno5, Rodan, Coobah, Sonotheque, and the PUMA Store where she has appeared with Matthew Dear, Guido Schneider, Matthias Tanzmann, Angel Alanis, Lady D, InsideOut, Derek Plaslaiko, Eliot Lipp, Gene LeFosse, K.atou, Danny the Wildchild, Kate Simko, Kill Memory Crash, Robert Armani, Lauren Flax and many more.
Gianna’s sets are comprised of her electronic-music influences including house, techno, minimal, jack, and acid, crafting a versatile style of her own. Her influences are vast; her delivery is on point and thumping. With Chicago House in her heart and soul, Gianna represents and is driven to give back to her city and the dance community. Gianna’s diverse integration of influences has one sole purpose while she is performing—to make you move.
