Ghetto Mafia

The group Ghetto Mafia established many of the trends coming out of the true roots of the “Dirty South” genre of music in the middle 1990’s. Originally from Decatur, GA, Ghetto Mafia members Wicked and Nino spent most of their youth surrounded by up and coming stars such as actor/comedian, Chris Tucker and the R&B group known as Silk. Ghetto Mafia emerged into the music industry and propelled their talents by collaborating with major artists such as MC Breed and Jazze Pha. Hip-Hop legend, MC Breed is the most notable influence that taught this duo the hip-hop game. The group scored a two-album deal in 1994 with Leeroy McMath, with Power Records, which was based out of Flint, Michigan. Ghetto Mafia released their first album entitled Draw the Line with the hit single “Everyday Thing in tha Hood’ featuring MC Breed. Their second album dropped in 1995, entitled Full Blooded Niggas . Both albums established a status of gold by selling over 100,000 copies each. With this success they caught the attention of Ernie Singleton, with Fully Loaded Records, and received a distribution deal for 2 albums through Sony in 1996. Ghetto Mafia released their third album Straight from the Dec and accelerated their craft of music to the next level by receiving a status of gold pending from the hit single “Straight From the Dec”. In 1998 the fourth album was released entitled “On Da Grind” and along with it came another hit single “In Decatur”. Ghetto Mafia has worked with a handful of national artists such as Pastor Troy, Goodie Mob, Little Scrappie, and 2 Pac. In 1999 Ghetto Mafia was featured on the soundtrack to the underground movie “Black Mafia”. Their careers took a major fall back when Nino was incarcerated for four years on conspiracy charges in 2000. After 10 years of the hustle and grind of life, Ghetto Mafia is back in business and stronger then ever. In 2006 they fused together again with Ernie Singleton, with Birmingham Records and Big D and Rick Stephenson, with Xtra Point Incorporated gearing towards the release of their fifth album in February 2007. Ghetto Mafia will continue to embody their creativity through their unique style of writing in the heart of the “Dirty South”.
