Formed in 2009, the Chicago based metal quintet Genus consists of vocalist Ryan Sears, guitarists Michael Russo and Brian "Brell" Worth, bassist Daniel Kushner, and drummer Brad Kalmikoff. The band's shift between heavy slams and melodic breakdowns, along with unconventional song structures, is what gives Genus a unique sound that is not easily classifiable. The band has opened for such acts as Ventana and Motograter, and was featured on the 2011 Slave to the Metal Festival. With the band's independent EP release "Origin" slated for early 2012 coupled with their high energy live performances, Genus enters the local metal scene as a band that should not be ignored.
The band's message is simple: we are all the same genus; we are all humans being.
