The Genocya entity was formed in April of 2002 by Cadillac metallers Rick Leusby and Kris Smith on guitars and Michigan metal mainstay Tim Sever (Production Grey, Wind of the Black Mountains, Left Hand Trinity, Project Apocalypse) on drums. The guys recruited vocalist Randy Belden to a short-lived tenure and followed with the addition of scene stalwart and general good-guy Jim Albrecht on bass, the band recorded a demo during this short-lived formation. Belden’s departure followed soon after, making way for mic shredding, homicidal misanthrope Jeff Keech in mid 2003. Later that year, the guys headed into the studio to record an 8 song demo, The Strangling Ritual . In early 2004, Leusby decided to pursue other ventures. Filling his spot was the thrashin’ Dutchman, Brad van Staveren (Cavalcade, Rosemary, Samaira) adding to the band his curious character, live intensity and the signature stomp. With this line up, Genocya found a new excitement about playing music, spending the next 2 years playing nearly every venue in Michigan and northern Ohio, including opening for national acts like Overkill, Anthrax, Deicide, Cattle Decapitation, Neuraxis, and Into Eternity. Then, in May of 2006, founding member Kris Smith left to tackle other life interests and to focus on strictly studio work. In July, Dave Peterman (Satyrasis) was brought in to fill Smith’s rather large shoes, bringing with him a hearty dedication, and host of new perspectives.
The band charged on with new found vigor, working on new material and making its first venture to Chicago. The good times were again short lived, as founding member and sound pillar, Tim Sever, decided to leave the band in April 2007 to concentrate on his family. After an arduous 6 months of searching, Genocya finally found new life with drummer Jake Bryan (Year 200X, Summer Dying, Prevalent Dreams, Churchill Downs). After roughly a year of inactivity(aside from a couple shows & the writing of new material) due to conflicting work schedules, etc, the band mutually parted ways with Jake and Tim Sever returned to the fold to give Genocya the backbone and soul that always existed while he was in the band. Shortly after, Dave Peterman announced that he could no longer divide his time between Genocya, Satyrasis, work, and school. Determined to carry on, Genocya began going through a short list of people they had in mind for a replacement. After a couple jams, the band decided that Matt Cunningham(aka "Yukon Matt"), a good friend from Lansing, had what it takes to hang with the unique personalities that make up Genocya and to play what was laid out before him. The band spent the winter writing new material and getting everything set to devastate in 2009. At the end of 2009, one more change with the line up needed to be made, this being vocal duties. Jeff had been unable contribute much in 2009, besides shows, due to outside problems, and thus came the task of auditioning singers. Luckily, there were a lot of responses to this call, and a new front man was found rather quickly in Dane Brown (Coathanger, Serpent Crown). With Dane's vocals comes a power not heard in quite some time. They will return to the studio at the end of March 2010 to start work on their first "official" cd. Genocya continues as they always have.creating Metal for Metal's sake and having fun playing music together.Thrash 'till Death!
