Asian. Acoustic. Urban. Electronic. Poetic Lyrics. Infectious melodies.  Gein Wong is an acclaimed spoken word poet, writer and electronic music composer who weaves emotion and power throughout her art. Her works focus on obvious things like gender, class and raceas well as things a little less obvious, like gender, class and race. Her words and music have been heard across Canada, as well as internationally in England, the Caribbean, East Asia and the United States. Her CD Thousand Mile Voice is a warm and distinctive blend of East Asian acoustic instruments and electronic brushed beats. Ancient instruments like the erhu (Chinese violin) and the dizi (Chinese flute), intermingle amongst synthesizers, pianos, spoken word, western violins and hand drums as if they had always belonged together. Currently, Gein is focusing on the Movement Project's debut multi-arts production How We Forgot Here: The First Movement as well the integrated arts stage adaption of Salt Fish Girl by Larissa Lai. Gein resides in Toronto where she is the Co-Artistic Director of The Movement Project and the co-founder and Director of the Asian Arts Freedom School .
