Gatekeeper & Dread MC Live Mix End of '09 by Gatekeeper Productions

If Symptoms Persist 12" - ISP 002 - Gatekeeper / Appleblim - "Blip" / "Vansan" (Gatekeeper remix)

www.boomkat.com -

"The latest missive from the Bristol skool of Bass comes from Gatekeeper, providing the electro-shocked 'Blip' backed with his version of Appleblim's 'Vansan'. 'Blip' skulks on the fringes of dubstep where breaks, hard electro and darker substances are traded for the usual cliches, resulting in a mutant warehouse stepper ripe for the heavy steppers. Following T++'s lead, he's the next to remix 'Blim's proudest moment on 'Vansan', using the trickling motif over bulbous kicks and wrought iron stabs to hit hard and heavy over a big rig. Nastiness!"

Immerse 12" - IME 012 - Gatekeeper / Appleblim & Gatekeeper - "Hades" / "Tomb" (Gatekeeper VIP)

WIRE -

"Like recent releases by Jakes and Joker, this kicks to the floor the notion that Bristol's dubstep scene is in any way wafty or overly-cerebral. Both of these tracks from the ex-Skull Disco producers look back sonically to a time before Techstep was named as such, when every dubplate in a Kemistry & Storm set would thrillingly wrong-foot you with its crispness and controlled aggression. But at 140 bpm that element of control is even more pronounced than at 180, as is the sense of space: the final whipcrack snare that releases the wound-up tension of each bar in 'Hades' and the kidney-punch bass notes punctuating 'Tomb', like a martial artist's blow pulled back at the exact point of contact, demonstrate the violence the music could inflict without actually inflicting it."

Keep listening
