G A R N E S S is a duo consisting of the twin sisters Ingelin Reigstad Norheim and Hildegunn Garnes Reigstad (b. 1984) from Bergen at the west coast of Norway. The two sisters, who wrote their first songs at the age of five, are now releasing their debut album as grown artists.

The playful vocal interaction, that in many ways reflects their unique twin-relationship, is an important component of their distinctive stamp. Ingelin’s drifting guitar play and Hildegunn’s tasteful way of spicing it all up with instruments like percussion, glockenspiel, keyboards and autoharp has impressed and amazed the audience. The songs often deal with challenges the sisters are facing in their daily life, but also leave room for humor and wonder. The girls seek to find new ways of describing feelings and thoughts that are familiar to their listeners.

Garness has worked full time in the music industry and developed their tunes since 2003. They have worked with distinguished songwriters and producers in Nashville, TN and have held a lot of concerts in Norway as well as abroad. The group has also been guests in several popular music shows on Norwegian television such as “Beat for Beat”, “Absolutt Norsk” and “Kjempesjansen”.

An important goal for the girls all these years has been to release their music. When Erik Hillestad (artistic director at the respected Norwegian record company Kirkelig Kulturverksted) heard Garness’ demos for the first time, he was so thrilled by their honest and inspired expression that he challenged the girls to produce the record themselves - at home! It was natural for the girls to bring in their ”musical soul mate”, the well-represented keyboardist Torjus Vierli as their co-producer. Hours of intense work this spring, with their living room as creative workshop, has resulted in an album that has accomplished an acoustic and interesting, playful sound. The Good or Better Side of Things will be released the 22nd of September.
