Gannin Arnold knew he wanted to play guitar from a young age, inspired by
the metal band videos that were being shown on MTV. His first teacher, Adam
St. James, introduced him to the music of guitarists who would have a
lasting impact on his own playing, including Jeff Beck, Randy Rhoads, Eddie
Van Halen, Allan Holdsworth, Brian May, Larry Carlton, Frank Zappa and more.
He cut his teeth playing clubs with his High School fusion band
“Minimum 3” and had the chance to open for some pretty heavy weight fusions
acts like The Yellowjackets, Billy Cobham, Stanley Jordan and guitar legend
Scott Henderson. Henderson was impressed with Gannin enough to welcome him
as a private student and it was under his tutelage that Gannin’s playing
grew in leaps and bounds.
Over the years, Gannin has recorded and toured the world with known artists
in both the Rock/Pop and Jazz arenas, including Cheap Trick, John Tesh,
Smashing Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, Jeff Berlin, and Brian Bromberg.
When Foo Fighter’s drummer Taylor Hawkins put his own band together ("Taylor
Hawkins and The Coattail Riders") he chose Gannin to cover the guitar chair.
Gannin has also been recording and touring with one of his guitar heroes,
Joe Walsh.
Aside from touring and being in demand as a studio musician, writer and
producer on projects ranging from Artist CDs to Film & Television, Gannin
has recently finished his first solo CD "Not From Here". This CD will
feature musicians Jimmy Chamberlin, Taylor Hawkins, Stephen Perkins, Simon
Phillips, Pat Mastelotto, Rudy Sarzo, Tony Levin, Tim Landers and more.
