An Honours graduate of Harris Institute, Toronto Producer/Engineer Fresh Kils has been in front of a soundboard since the early nineties. Earning his producer chops in the underground Hip Hop scene of Halifax, NS, Kils began working with a group of MCs that eventually formed the collective known as Backburner. Production work out of this camp includes projects for SJ the Wordburglar, Jesse Dangerously (Music Nova Scotia Award 2006), Jay Bizzy, Toolshed (London Music Award 2005), Ghettosocks (2011 Juno Nominee, Music Nova Scotia Award 2008) and More Or Les, creating "some of the best beats of the year." (NOW Magazine).
As an Engineer, Kils has worked in music studios across the country with K-Cut (of legendary Canadian Hip Hop group Main Source), Saukrates, Fabolous, Saigon, US actor/musician Tyrese, Tash (from the Alkaholiks), Kool G Rap, D-Sisive, Moka Only and Hip Hop Producer icon Ali Shaheed Muhammed (of Hip Hop's early 90's mainstay A Tribe Called Quest).
A natural extension of production work, Fresh Kils both records and performs in numerous groups. Partnered with Uncle Fester and numerous live musicians including Sylvio Pupo (Buena Vista Social Club) & Kingsley Ettienne, Kils performs with The Extremities, a live jazz remix ensemble. His impressive skills on the MPC sampler has seen him back up various emcee's including Rich Kidd, More Or Les, Wordburglar, King Jus, Magnolius, Toolshed, and Ghettosocks, touring the US & Europe, opening for Nas, De La Soul, GZA, Necro, AZ, El Da Sensei, Freeway, AG, Buckshot, Buck 65, The Herbaliser, Afrika Bambaataa, Sixtoo, Kid Koala, Mr. Lif, Cesar Comanche (of Justus League) and Pumpkinhead. With live to air performances on CBC's Atlantic Airwaves, successful showcases at both the ECMA's and Atlantic Jazzfest, Fresh Kils continues to build his performance acumen.
Kils continues to produce and engineer for a number of artists at his Toronto studio The Kilzone; notably Abdominal, Frank Dukes, MOP, Tanika Charles, Tona, Timbuktu, The Extremities, Modulok (Takaba), Trupaz (Urbnet), The Leathers (Paper Tiger), Rich Kidd, Jordan Croucher, More Or Les, Jesse Dangerously, Angerville, Apollo Creed, The Get By (Mantis & Justis) and more.
