Format aka the freed spirit is an aspiring MC and rapper, hailing from just outside South West London, he has been involved within the DnB scene for almost a decade. His career began spitting at house parties and recording demos with friends, including MC Kombo (the duo being Illicit Poets) and DJ Slack, who along side him DJ'd and MC'd. More notibly he began to perform on various radio stations including a weekly saturday night set on Ruud Awakening 104.3FM (RIP) and more recently a regular slot on www.WorldFM.co.uk until it came off air in 2007/2008. You can now catch him doing various guest shows on many FM/Internet stations.
His love for the music and to perform has taken him to feature at live events all over the country, to date he has played out in, Brighton, Leeds, Leicester, Bristol, Manchester, Bournemouth, Southampton and an abundance of venues in and around London and surrey, such as SE1, Cargo, Mass, Plan B and many more. These two factors have largely contributed to him having already created a name for himself. Format is currently representing I Double K (Illicit Konduct Krew + Illicit Poets), QC (Quality Control), Grass Roots Family, Out Of Hand Records and Music Mafia. Format also currently holds residencies with Kings Of The Nu Skool, Student Welfare and Waxworks.
Recently Format has began to take his Hip Hop more seriously, with his musical influences being eclectic from day he has found that he is able to utilize ideas and inspirations from across the board and create a more mature, introspective sound. He is currently working on an album with his vocalist Elle James which is produced by Time Is Money. Their most recent track LIFES LESSON is being promoted at the moment an they are shooting are video for it very soon. (Keep your eyes and ears peeled for more info)
Formats past has been pretty well documented, but there is no denying the fact that this has contributed to the freed spirit evolving from within him, "as my life has changed, along side it so has my music, for me to focus on Hip Hop more is someting which happened, i didnt make a concious decision, it just happened without me realising, and it feels right to go in that direction". The future appears to be bright for Format with many projects to engage him and interest from all sides big things are predicted for the future
