Fred Jones is a band that either explores the depths of musical genres or completely disbands the logic of them. In any case, the outcome is something that sounds new, refreshing, yet subtly familiar. Fred Jones is the brainchild of friends Jason Encabo and Ray Orias, who have played music together on and off for over six years. Begun in the summer months of 2005, the band has gone through several guises; The Flying Kites being the most prominent of them. Eventually, however, the guys settled on the name, Fred Jones.

What is different about Fred Jones is that it is a band that has stripped away much of the common and often, frivolous instrumentations expected in contemporary music. Only relying on bass, drums, piano, and vocals to carry the tune, the band has absolute confidence in the songs themselves. But just because they take a minimalist approach to music, that does not mean that the band has set limits. Rather, these are frontiers that are meant to be pushed and expanded. Pulling from various sources, each song is like a fusion of different musical styles. There is always an apparent main influence but there are often hints of other genres incased in the melodies. Rounding out the band is Tony Geraci. A friend of a friend, Geraci joined the duo, bringing his driving bass lines to the fold.

On November 28th, the band released their first EP, Life & Wine. Recorded with Ryan Matteson of Blue Room Production in Fallbrook, CA, the EP was the perfect representation of the band's sound and timbre at the time. Since then, the guys have toured California, recieved positive reviews from the critics, and have gotten some notereity among the San Diego music scene. The band has already written enough material for an album (still untitled) and they will begin recording early in 2008. Whereas the the EP was very straightforwardly poppy, the band is embracing their different collective musical roots to bring about another side to Fred Jones.
