If Franz White's first album were a journey, it'd be a hitch-hiking trip with a backpack and a guitar – carefree and simple. His new album "Colour Me" seems more like a turbulent ride, passing by some pretty girls, a forest, a cathedral, then down into the urban jungle and out into the open fields again. Luckily, Franz White doesn't solely rely on his extra-ordinary voice, but very much seems to enjoy experimenting with new sounds and electronics. His songs are more mature, the arrangements more complex. Like in "What about a kiss" that starts with dusky synthie-sounds and then surprisingly opens up to its sunshine-chorus again and again. Not many men could get away with the almost naïve sincerity White uses to describe the day-to-day and his tender love. But Franz White masters the vulnerability of indie pop like no one else.
„We were really feeling it!" That's how Franz Weischet and Raphael Bartel describe the first time they met at the North Sea to make music. A drum, a guitar and Franz' voice – that's all it took to dive into the depth of human nature, to rid oneself of the world and tell everyone about it. And that's exactly what you will hear on Franz' first EP „mirror" that he released with a little help from his friends in the summer of 2007. All he needed now was a band name. Franz moved to Leipzig and stepped out into the singer-songwriter world on his own – Franz White was born. 2008 was the year of great concerts and tours. He got to play with Sarah Brendel, was playing on the radio and even got invited to play live at Radio Sputnik as an opening act for Kate Nash. "Franz White charmingly presented his songs somewhere between Jack Johnson and Coldplay." (sputnik) The summer of 2009 was spent on his grand "busking-barbeque-livingroom-summer-tour", now reunited with Raphael. In September 2009, Franz got accepted at the Mannheim Pop Academy and found fellow music aficionados to join his singer/songwriter-pop band, reviving old material and adding new stuff. Franz White has enjoyed the transition from playing acoustic to electric, and is looking forward to the new record coming up. "It's going to be a lot more colourful
than the old one. It was great to start working with a real band, having more complex arrangement, that sort of thing." And until we get to hear Franz White live, go and check out some of his new songs.
