The Foundation FunKollective is an organization comprised of Hip-Hop artists/crews representing the four original elements of the culture. In its mission to unite and empower the youth and the community, the Kollective has conducted over 800 open mics and over 20 large concert and dance events and competitions in Los Angeles, Inland Empire and Orange County. It has also been very active in Community Health Programs/Health Fairs, University and Employment outreach programs, youth violence and advocacy programs, and many other community campaigns and issues including those concerning policy and systems change.
From April of 2004, the Foundation FunKollective entered into a community partnership with the Orange County Asian/Pacific islander Community Association (OCAPICA) and the City of Garden Grove Youth Cafe Center to present "The Circle." Two other Programs were also started in the City of Carson (since the month May 2004 with the City of Carson, City of Carson Youth Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation) and the City of Los Angeles (since October 2004).
These are weekly Hip-Hop Workshop and Practice Sessions with goals designed to:
- Educate youth in the theory and practice of Hip-Hop Culture
- Provide a "safe space" and alternative youth activity through cultural/artistic expression
- Provide outreach to youth in the community for the employment programs provided by the Youth Cafe Center and social programs provided by OCAPICA, The City of Long Beach, City of Carson, City of Los Angeles, UCLA, CSULB, CSULA as well as a community health, college outreach and tutoring programs by our many community partners
- Creating youth driven chapters that provide Leadership and Organizational Skills Trainings/Community Issues and Educational Discussions for the youth in the community to Plan, Implement and Evaluate their own Foundation Chapters and events
