Flashing of Knives is a new Danish band with twisted minds and lots of baggage. The 5 members of the Copenhagen based band are sound tracking life in the fast lane with its inevitable ups and downs.
With an appreciative nod to At the Drive-In and These Arms Are Snakes’ energetic post hardcore; Gang of Four, The Cure, and Interpol’s dark coolness, the Rapture and CSS’s danceable ditto, and even Madlib and Saul Williams’ alternative Hip hop, Flashing of Knives mix inspiration with savageness and an impact that separates them from most Danish bands.
In the fall of 2007 the band signed a contract with newly started Front/All Records, a sublabel of Quartermain Records (Death By Kite, Marvins Revolt, Doi, and more). The band’s debut album “In Shark Territory”, which is mixed by Jonas Jrgensen (Figurines, Death By Kite, and more) and mastered by Jason Ward(Arcade Fire etc.), was released by Front/All Records June 30th 2008.
Flashing of Knives left humour behind when entering the rehearsal room; broken relationships, drinking sprees, unpaid bills, loss of innocence, power struggles, crap jobs, society’s increasing violence fixation, and the eternally egocentric human race. With these themes as a starting point the band has created an uncompromising album that is a topical still-picture of an inflamed everyday life, passed on as dark and edgy but at the same time catchy and dance-inviting rock music.
With lyrical references to some of the ideals (At the Drive-In, Saul Williams, mewithoutYou, and even Rolling Stones) with the album “In Shark Territory” Flashing of Knives tries to incorporate their references in new constellations joined under brutally honest themes focused on the obstacles we encounter throughout life.
Under the name Sinai the band has supported mewithoutYou (US), These Arms Are Snakes (US), and Sounds Like Violence (SE) on their European tours and played more than 50 jobs in Denmark and Sweden.
