Here's what a few people have said about our debut album -

'finniston have mastered the knack of the killer pop single - and another love song proves the point. it's jangly pop with irresistible drive and an addictive hook. the feel-good week days off recalls the la's and love is hard to find could be a blue-tones out-take.'

BIRMINGHAM SUNDAY MERCURY

'this is the debut album from this talented band whose melodic output shows flashes of everyone from the las to Idlewild, with even a touch of arab strap. folky and packing plenty of tunes, finniston could make a splash this year.'

THE CRACK MAGAZINE

'i think the mainstream record buying public and the charts need bands like finniston; easy on the ears, catchy folky pop. I can almost imagine jonathan ross waxing lyrical about how he ‘discovered' them. they will no doubt be massive'

SUBBA CULTCHA----------------------------------------------------------

Mark Hunter of the Tartanpodcast came to our album launch in October and recorded an interview with us. Click the player to have a listen.

To stare longingly out of a window dreaming of better things is a trait that befalls many artists; Finniston are no different.

Originally a Brother/Sister duo (Steven & Jolene) melding together their disparate influences through summers whiled away in Shetland, they have now been ably joined by Andrew (Double Bass) and Jamie (Drums) to bolster their direction and sound.

Steven’s love for the Seattle sound of the early 90’s has been diffused through Jolene’s more traditional influences and this has created a truly interesting and sublime take on modern guitar pop sound.

Think of Ben Kweller sneaking into the rehearsal room with the Bad Seeds and reorganising the days practice schedule, whilst a young Peter Buck and Mike Mills nod in appreciation in the control room. There is an open honesty to the song writing that anyone would struggle to dislike.

Finniston eschew any notion of the cynical modern musical landscape through their heartfelt belief. In a legacy-sapped industry this band deserves its time to create one.

'it's the cavalcade, tumble down keyboards, squeezebox wooze and subtly sharp guitaring stiched to those typically scottish wall to wall sweet n sour vocal sheets that hook you. this is material that grabs you like an over-insistent shiva.seducing, firing you up and drawing you into the whirl or the eddy of their pool. finniston are too good for me, but you'll cope, love cherish and all that, so do that.'
