Slyde have been gracing the
breaks scene with their unique style of layered beats since 2002.
Their last four singles
released under Finger Lickin’ have sold over 15,000 records. Stemming from a
wealth of influences spanning hip hop, rave, funk, big beat and electrifyingly
bouncy break beats, Slyde presents a whole new mashed up, multi-level sound with
their first album.
12Tree initially engineered
Laidback’s Frequency Delinquency, with the latter’s belief that “rave is early
break beat speeded up” running through its veins. The pair’s infatuation with
funky, phat and well-produced breaks ensured they gelled perfectly and the album
saw spectacular success winning Amazon’s Electronic Album of the Year in 2002.
Following various
accomplishments with the breaks arm of Bolshi, e.g. the track Flow, which
appeared on Sancho Panza’s Carnival compilation Float, the duo were reborn as
Slyde. Under the new name and with a new home at Finger Lickin’, Slyde has seen
incredible singles success with the outrageously funky Slippedy Slide and
addictively infectious Krunk.
Every Slyde single has
reached the top five of DJ Magazine’s Beats Chart, receiving extensive radio
play on renowned stations such as X FM and Radio 1. The duo has performed
internationally since its inception. After a chance introduction to Keith Flint
of The Prodigy, who immediately recognized their talent, the trio collaborated
on Clever Brains Fryin’
Today Slyde’s discerning
conception of break beats has resulted in an album that both reflects their core
influences and origins and strikes with a sophisticated depth of sound, crossing
breaks with melodic tunes and commercial awareness.
Featuring a range of
vocalists because “we don’t just want make breaks tunes that are easy to mix in
a club, we want people to feel the lyrics, hear the songs”,
Slyde are about to introduce
the world to the vocal allure of both underground and well-known artists. These
include Katty, Bent; Lady Posh, hip hop vocalist/MC; Charlie, The Method; MC Sir
Real, Freestylers; GI Joe, top UK battle MC; and Heather, long-established US
MC. Couple these diverse vocalists and lyrics with a randomness of beats,
experimental layers of sounds and this is an album that truly cuts the
edge
