2009 ICCA Champs!!!

In the Spring of 2004, a relatively unknown a cappella ensemble by the name of Fermata Nowhere walked into a Broadway theater off of Time Square and shocked the collegiate a cappella world by coming in second in the Finals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella. This marked the first time that a community college had ever advanced to the ICCA finals. From an initial field of nearly 200 NCAA schools, this motley looking group from Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California had come within an inch of being named the top collegiate a cappella ensemble in the world.

In the Spring of 2009, Fermata Nowhere returned to New York to try their luck again, this time against groups from Yale, Oxford, South Africa, Missouri State, Florida State and Ithaca. On Saturday, April 18, 2009 in the Alice Tully Hall of the Lincoln Center, they made history by becoming the first community college to ever win the International Finals. Fermata Nowhere would like to thank their friends, family, and administrators at Mt. San Antonio College for all of their support. They would also like to congratulate all of the other a cappella groups that they have competed against this year and look forward to hanging out with them again whenever they get the chance.

In the mean time, Fermata Nowhere continues to thrill audiences across the continent, from Alaska to New York. They have sung everything from eight part Renaissance motets to barbershop to rock and hip hop. They have sung for standing room only audiences in huge auditoriums, but also for stewardesses, waitresses, hotel guests in bars, homeless people in subway stations, the person in stall 3.you get the idea. Singing is not only a passion with these guys from Walnut, CA.it’s a compulsion. Most people would ask for an autograph when they meet a movie star at the Hotel Del Coronado. Fermata blocks their path and begins to sing tags.

Today, this all male vocal ensemble from Mt. San Antonio College continues its quest for excellence.and food.and women.but not necessarily in that order. Thanks for checking out our site, and we hope to see you at our next concert!
