OUR BIO

Felina's Arrow is set to break your heart open with songs that reflect people's triumphs, failures, and struggles. After a chance meeting on the sidewalk in Seattle 2002, Poeina and Felicia became instantly inseparable and soon after started their non-stop tour, coast to coast, from the sidewalk to the theaters, in a VW van for the next four years. In 2006, they decided to finally stop in Portland, Oregon where for the last three years they have been a teacher, a carpenter/luthier, and community volunteers, as well as continuing their passion for music. It was in portland where they met their percussionist Sarah Linderman, who is a fantastic and beautiful addition to their sound. Often performing with a whole myriad of performers musicians and artists, Felina's Arrow makes it a point for every show to be a unique experience always striving to create a live spectacle for the eyes ears and heart.

If it was easy to interpret the allure of Portland femme fatales Felina’s Arrow, the duo’s deftly layered influences aren’t worn on its collective sleeve, but rather underneath a cloak of musical shades, striking a chord of diversity for an audience teeming with it. The band has garnered a sizeable following for rollicking interpretations of songcraft both melancholy and spry. Songs like “Phantom,” from their 2006 album Let Me Tell You a Story, navigate operatic melodies and heartbreaking lyricism with minimalist guitar accompaniment, while “Pirate Song,” from a collection of live recordings, dishes up a peppy, swashbuckling, mariachi groove. Covering such a spectrum of sound all but guarantees intrigue for whoever might be listening.

Poeina Suddarth and Felicia Figueroa now form Felina’s Arrow, a melodic fusion of acoustic soul and poetic rock, incorporating a little performance art into their shows for good measure.

Felina’s Arrow was the crown of the evening. Felicia Figueroa’s amazing bass and guitar work was both accomplished and nuanced. I suspect she is classically trained, but her range of styles is impressive. The pieces ranged from jazzy samba style rhythms to Eastern European folk sounds. Poeina Suddarth’s vocals were equally amazing in range and precision. From soulful to tender, she didn’t miss a beat.

The songs, too, were skillfully written and very moving. The anthemic “Amelia” was the height of the evening, with beautifully structured minimalism and soulful pain.

a great acoustic concert with smooth vocals.

Felina's Arrow brought stage presence, style, substance, and innovation together in their crowd-rocking performance. The two girls leading the charge started with a vocals-only piece, showcasing their wide range and belting abilities. After warming the crowd with upbeat, harmonically-infused vocal rock-outs, the group brought their set down. Poeina let her voice do the walking as her band chased at her heels. Mixed and blended with the sometimes dissonant sound, the backup singers nicely texturized the vocals, and let the spotlight shine on Poeina and Felicia. In one of their finer songs, the girls traded harmonies on 'Phantom;' a sultry, dark cruise down their rocky history. After a rousing set of thirty minutes, the crowd gave a three-minute standing ovation, and would not settle until the girls had started into the intro of their encore performance.

The Mercury - celebration of the siren nation by Em Brownlowe Portland, OR 10/08

Oregonian Live - siren nation preview: the music by Alley Hector Portland, OR 10/08

Felina’s Arrow: Poeina Suddarth and Felicia Figueroa blend dynamic and ghostly vocals with intimate music played on an assortment of instruments to create an altogether unique soundscape. It’s in the pairing of their voices, sometimes in contrast to one another and sometimes in complete harmony, where these women make their show.

Just Out- Hear me Roar by Kristin Steele Portland, OR 10/08

Felina’s Arrow = Cat Power + Bjork + Jewel? If you’re into going to the restaurants that have live music on their schedules, Let Me Tell You a Story is a good way to recreate that atmosphere without leaving the house. It seems that as the album goes by, it really is telling you a story. Each song has a different vibe from jazzy to comedic. The instrumental sound is exceptionally good and blends in with the ghostly vocals of Poeina Suddarth and Felicia Figueroa.

~Just Out - A Class Act by West Duncan Portland, OR 5/07

“The Power beauty and magic of music, truly the heart and soul of music, is to be passing on songs that reflect people’s lives and stories that aren’t readily available by any other means. That’s what I love about you two. You bring these kinds of things to us and you are conscious in your music. Great music, voluminous music, it’s so beautiful, you have it all as far as I am concerned.”

~KBOO 90.7fm - Woman Soul live interview by Sheila Gayle Portland, OR 5/07

“Felina’s CD, Let Me Tell You a Story, is a breath of fresh air. It takes quite a bit of artistry to create something completely unique, and Felina has done it….The Vocals have a quirkiness that could be compared to Regina Spektor and Bjork…Suddarth’s voice had the control of an opera singer, the tenderness of a folk singer, and the unleashed power of a woman scorned…Just like their album, their live show will catch you by surprise at every turn.”

~Volcano Weekly – Sound Check Two Worlds Collide by Angela Jossy Olympia, WA 4/07

“Imaginative treatment of standards by the duo Felina, including a darkly minimal "Good Morning, Heartache," was appropriate and charming in its unpolished enthusiasm.”

~The Oregonian - Ain’t anybody’s business if they sing like Billie Tribute by Lynn Darroch 3/07
