Brandon Helms (guitars, samples) and Robert Knight (bass) founded From Oceans to Autumn in the summer of 2006 — shortly after laying to rest their previous band, Autumn Is Forever, which had a long, if nondescript run between 1997 and 2004. Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, the pair proceeded to recruit Eddie Daniel (drums) and Allen Knight (keyboards, samples) in order to record their debut full-length, Calmed by the Tide, which was released by Forgotten Empire Records in 2007, and showcased a broad range of instrumental post-metal and drone rock influences including Isis, Taken, Earth, Sunn 0))), and Rosetta. From Oceans to Autumn also released a split album with Scottish labelmates Fire on the Horizon in July 2008. After a 2 year hiatus, FOTA have returned. -All Music Guide

From Oceans To Autumn are an excellent little prospect, who – once you've mastered the skill of not accidentally calling them From Autumn To Ashes – play a fantastically dreamy, immersive brand of ambient post-whatever, and you can download this EP for free. It rarely strays from the 'dynamic build' blueprint used by so many others, but this is executed skilfully, leaving you feeling as if you're floating as insistent guitar lines weave through layers of harmonics and cymbals. Comparisons to the likes of Pelican are inevitable, but this act easily has the talent to one day be held with the same regard. You've heard it all before, but that doesn't mean you won't want to hear this.

.the beauty and complexity of the ambient is stunning. The collision of creepy guitar noises and ambient electronics drowning in the echoing of post-metal guitars is skilfully orchestrated. Massively reverbed, wailing guitars are the trademark sound of a lot of bands these days, and although FOtA's compositions are of epic proportions, they still manage to keep enough variety in them to keep it interesting.
