Aberdeen's ESTRELLA are destined to make big waves in the coming months with the release of their debut album – "Come Out To Play" – in March 2012 and their Double A Side Single – "One Love" and "Party" – available to download on iTunes now!
Current radio airplay for the tracks, taken from their debut album, include Jim Gellatly's shows on Amazing Radio and In:Demand Uncut which is aired across Scotland. Jim, who is credited for finding many new up and coming artists, has said "Party" is an "anthem"!
Brothers, Paul (Vocals), Luke (Lead Guitar) and Nathan Gunn (Bass Guitar) along with Leo McPherson (Drums) make up the band and have built a solid reputation throughout the Highlands and North East of Scotland from their live shows.
Over the last year the band has retained a deliberately low profile to make a change to their line-up (unearthing a real gem in Leo, who sounds as though he's been playing with the guys for years) and to focus on writing/producing new material for their first album, in collaboration with John T Sinclair (Rock Musician).
The Gunn brothers first met John T Sinclair at a music workshop in the Highlands, just after John had retired from his live music career, notably as keyboard player to Ozzy Osbourne and band member of both Uriah Heep and The Cult. Over the years, they remained in contact and when it came to finding a producer for their debut album, John was their first choice.
British Sound Engineer, Ashley Howe, who has worked previously with bands such as Queen, Led Zeppelin and Uriah Heep, then completed the final mixing of the band's album. Ashley himself has been a recipient of 30 Platinum and Gold Awards for Music Production and Engineering, as well as The Ampex Golden Reel Award.
So between commutes from their countryside hideaway in Aberdeenshire to John's studio in Inverness and then to London for final production/engineering on their new tracks, the guys have been kept busy!
The result is a sound which is primarily 70/80s infused rock –think Bon Jovi, Aerosmith and Def Leppard – awash with melody and riffs, thunderous beats and anthemic choruses –all the ingredients of a dynamic fresh new rock sound for today.
Starting of their return to the live music scene this year, Estrella's gigs have included playing at this year's Morton Stanley Park Festival Redditch, some local Aberdeen gigs in Drummonds and the Tunnels and on 1 December they are set to play Glasgow's Garage G2, the Rock Radio Xmas Party on 16th December, 29 December Thurso's Skinandis Night Club, Inverness Madhatters on 24 March 2012 and Glasgow's Rock for Funds on 5th May 2012; further dates in Scotland and throughout the UK will be announced on the band's facebook site soon - www.facebook.com/estrellarocks
A far throw from when the band first arrived in Aberdeen, in late 2005, as aspiring young musicians with a handful of songs. During this time, the guys have matured both as musicians and individuals, flirted with several tweaks in musical direction, gigged throughout the UK and have now fully served their "apprenticeship".
Estrella's passion for their music, as well as their on stage impact, ensure the band deliver an irrepressible rock performance at each and every gig!
