>>>>>>>>WHO THE FUCK ARE ERYKA?<<<<<<<<<<
To answer one question, however, is to answer both.
Why should you care? Put simply, you should care
because of who they are and what they are.
This is a Glasgow-based four-piece – Ryan Fletcher (lead
vocals, guitar), Paul Mosley (lead guitar, backing vocals),
Kenny McInally (bass, backing vocals) and Ross Morgan
(drums, backing vocals, samples) – who, in a relatively short
space of time, have played their home town’s ABC venue
(not the smaller ABC2, incidentally) having won a fiercely
contested ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition, have worked with
acclaimed producers such as Mick McNeil, who has worked
with Glaswegian legends Simple Minds, and Kev Burleigh of
Central Sounds, and have even secured their own rehearsal
and recording space, dubbed ‘Eryka Heights’.
Add to this the fact that they regularly sell-out one of
Glasgow’s most famous venues, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut,
and have already embarked upon two self-funded mini UK
tours, what you have is a band that is not short on talent,
support, self-belief and determination.
But as impressive as these facts and figures are, they do not
make the band what they are. Like any truly great band,
they are far, far greater than the sum of their considerably
talented parts.
They are four friends who have been playing music in one
form or another for six years, three of them together as Eryka.
They place a great importance on having fun, as friends do,
but are deadly serious about what they want to achieve as a
band. It’s a well-coined cliché to state that they are passionate
about music so we’ll try to avoid it here. Instead, what can
be said is this is a band that thrives, positively crackles with
energy, when they are together writing and creating music.
A band with a real chemistry that only kinship and a shared
belief can bring.
They are simultaneously a similar yet disparate group of
friends, with a wide-range of musical influences that, when
brought together, create something unique. This is where a
list of ‘influences’ would usually be trotted out. You know the
type of thing: usual, iconic landmark bands/artists? Check. A
handful of more ‘left field’ influences designed to impress with
their avant garde attitude? Check.
But here you’ll find a band that is never more inspired than
when they are creating music together, when they are in the
studio lovingly crafting and self-producing their own work
or when they are onstage taking their music to the public,
tweaking, adjusting and pushing their own music and their
own abilities and limits.
But that’s now; what of the future? They have goals of course,
short term and long term, as you’d expect from a band so
ambitious. Goals that they believe that with support and
guidance can be fully realised.
That’s the plan anyway. And this is a band determined
enough, and talented enough, to make it happen.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>That’s who Eryka are. And that’s why you should give a fuck. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
