Eric Papilaya

Eric Papilaya was born on June 9th, 1978 as the son of an Indonesian and an Austrian in Voecklabruck (Upper Austria, Austria). He grew up in Laakirchen and attended, after having graduated from school, an educational programme for graphical design.



At the age of 15 he founded his own band, called "Milk". The artist proclaims "Milk’s" musical style as a "mixture of Jamiroquai and the German 'Söhne Mannheims'". As we can see, the artist from Upper Austria cannot be pegged as someone following only one specific style. You just have to call him a real crossover artist!



In late autumn 2006 the Austrian TV-audience started to take notice of the singer and his high stylistic spectrum. In total, 2486 people applied for the Austrian casting format Starmania and out of this huge number of applicants Eric was decided to participate in the finale being on of the lucky 12. Additionally, he was the first "Starmaniac" ever receiving the chance to perform a song in the casting show being composed by his own ("Alles, was du bist").



Thanks to his impressive "STARMANIA"-appearances, the ORF made the decision that Eric will represent Austria at the Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki with "Get A Life - Get Alive". In addition it is a personal motivation for Eric that his contribute is at the same time the official "Life Ball"-Song 2007. In the semifinal on 10th of may 2007 Eric has the next to last entry number 27. The best ten are qualified for the final on 12th of may.



Geboren wurde Eric Papilaya als Sohn eines Indonesiers und einer Österreicherin am 9. Juni 1978 in Vöcklabruck. Er wuchs in Laakirchen auf, absolvierte nach der Schulzeit eine Ausbildung zum Grafiker und lebt nun schon mehrere Jahre in Wien.



Bereits als 15-Jähriger gründete Eric Papilaya die Band "Milk", deren musikalische Richtung er schmunzelnd als "Mischung aus Jamiroquai und den Söhnen Mannheims" beschreibt. Man sieht: Der Oberösterreicher passt in keine Schublade, man braucht schon einen ganzen Wandschrank für ihn.



Im Spätherbst 2006 wurde das österreichische TV-Publikum erstmals auf den Sänger und seine große stilistische Bandbreite aufmerksam. Aus 2486 Bewerbern hatte es der 28-Jährige unter die Finalisten des erfolgreichen ORF-Formats Starmania geschafft und war auch der einzige "Starmaniac", der in einer Show eine Eigenkomposition präsentieren durfte (die Ballade "Alles, was du bist").



Dank seiner beeindruckenden "Starmania"-Auftritte entschloss sich der ORF, Eric mit dem Titel "Get A Life - Get Alive" zum Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki zu entsenden. Dass der österreichische Beitrag gleichzeitig als offizieller "Life Ball"-Song 2007 firmiert, ist für Eric ein wichtiges Zeichen und eine zusätzliche persönliche Motivation. Eric Papilaya geht beim Halbfinale am 10. Mai 2007 mit der vorletzten Startnummer 27 ins Rennen. Die besten Zehn des Halbfinales qualifizieren sich für das Finale am 12. Mai.
