der eremit

the project "der eremit" was brought to life in 1995 by gian, to realise his own personal vision of music. previously he had been active as a bass player in several death metal bands. by april 97 the debut mini "stümpermusik", which included solely electronic arrangements, was released as a limited edition. a year later, the first full-length album "blend-werk" was completed. for the first time "real" instruments were used and the material incorporated some metal influences. this album featured der gian on voice and bass, while other instruments like guitar, cello, violin and didgeridoo were played by session musicians.



shortly after that, dirk (guitar) joined the project as a permanent member. together they produced the subsequent albums "fiebertraum" (99) and "magma-prana" (01). once more they worked with session musicians on violin and cello. meanwhile pat fuse was recruited as the band's live drummer. at this point, songwriting for the album «das» commenced. the band took their time to optimise the new line-up, focussing on the implementation of guitar, bass and drums in a more band-oriented way, even more so when mormegil (also playing with "knowhere") as additional guitarist and daver (also playing with "apokatastasia") as cello-player joined. the new album took almost three years to complete. to bridge this gap, the double volume remix album «besserwisser» was released. "das" was released in nov 04 trough the swiss label thunderdome (now "the xoomo"). due to time-reasons, the "das" line-up was not for long and mormgil, pat and daver left the band. dirk and gian decided to go on as 2man project and return to their harder and more electronical roots, adding the later experiences to the songwriting. rafi kirder (bass, also playing with "red shamrock"), merlin sutter (drums, also playing with "eluveitie") and ivo henzi (guitar, also playing with "eluveite") joined as live-support. the final album "kali" was released in nov 06 through thunderdome. while shooting the videoclip for the song "tuska", dirk decided to leave the band and because he was half of der eremit for many years, gian decided not to continue "der eremit" and move to different styles of music and expression. jan 2010, gian decided to finally put the "tuska"-clip on youtube for those involved and all ho may like it.
