EQUATRONIC

Since way back in 1993 EQUATRONIC have been musically celebrating their admiration for their musical heroes of the (new) wave era, like Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure, The Cure or Sparks. After two pretty successful demo-tapes the band (which consisted of three members back then) dared to take the next step and produced the five-track EP Shadowland in 1996, which brought them positive attraction not only outside their local area, but also by the reknowned German electro-label Zoth Ommog.



Subsequently the first full-length album, also by the name of Shadowland followed in early 1997 and recieved enthusiastic comments by the music press.



In 1998 EQUATRONIC reduced themselves into a duo and recorded their second longplayer Motivation in that line-up. This album gave them the opportunity to broaden their musical spectrum and to lay more stress on their major musical qualities: their classically trained voices and their ability to write instant and timeless melodies. Almost like on a compilation album on Motivation fragile ballads alternate with harder electric beats and hymnic arrangements stand next to joyful pop-tunes in perfect harmony.



Thus it was only a matter of time until EQUATRONIC became desired song suppliers for important synthpop samplers on either side of the Atlantic Ocean. Be it in Germany on the respective debut CDs of the Fanzines e-lectric and re-flexion, be it in the US on various tribute albums by labels such as Synthphony Records or Hypnotic: no matter if its an original song or a coverversion EQUATRONIC tracks are always among the album-highlights.



The EQUATRONIC discography is completed by remixes for other synth bands such as Echo Image or Point of View.



The band has also gathered a dedicated fan-base by being a stunning live-act. Olivers eccentric stage presence still captured the audiences at concerts with SPOCK, CLIENT, PSYCHE, ANNE CLARK or KARL BARTOS. Their appearance in Vienna (Austria) at the famous U4 club will also remain unforgettable.

In 2003 mayor changes have been made. Because of Dorotheas lack of time for the tour in Scandinavia, Dirk Gerlach (who already took part in the Shadowland e.p. in 1996) came back for the tour. In January and February 2003 Equatronic played in Sweden and Denmark. During the so-called „back to the 80's“ tour they were accompanied by the band „Reflected Image“, who also are good friends of EQUATRONIC.



Ater the gigs went really well, EQUATRONIC decided to go on with Dirk and started working on the album „Too close, too far and gone - The best of Equatronic remixed“. Unfortunately Dorothea left the band during the recording sessions for „Too close, too far and gone“. Oliver and Dirk went on as a duo - without any regret until today.



At the same time as the release of „Too close, too far and gone - The best of Equatronic remixed“ EQUATRONIC played a lot of concerts to promote the album. They played a little tour in South-West Germany with B-Machine (USA) und Dynamic Masters (Germany), before they went to Eastern Germany for some gigs later in 2004.



After the last concert in december 2004, EQUATRONIC had their well deserved live-break until May 2005.



Meanwhile EQUATRONIC released their 12“ maxi CD „Always the same“ with 4 remixes, the video for „Always the same“ and the B-Side „Somewhere“. As an offer to their fans (and the future ones) the maxi CD was relased for free on the official EQUATRONIC homepage www.equatronic.com. Then something many of their fans call „rebirth“ happenend, when EQUATRONIC started with a new live set and a complete different kind of performance in May 2005. They played with more popular bands and artists, the audiences became bigger and bigger and for some reason the inquiry have been increasing until today. In May 2005 EQUATRONIC played their famous concert in the „KuFa Krefeld“ (Germany) together with „Client“,

a well known band from London (UK). Even EQUATRONIC did not imagine how much their reputation would have grown -

even in a short period of time.



EQUATRONIC got booked for „bigger“ festivals and concerts, such as the „Electricity Campus Open Air“ (Germany) - together with Client again - in Summer 2005 and the well-known „Electricity Festival“ (Germany) together with ANNE CLARK and KARL BARTOS in Autumn 2005. In 2006 EQUATRONIC played some concerts. The way lead from Berlin (a gig with Sound Tesselated) over Saarbruecken, where they played on the big „Mystic Festival“ with Welle:Erdball, De/Vision and Diary of Dreams. The Nasty-Pop Festival (Kamen) and another stunning gig in the „KuFa Krefeld“ together with „The Twins“ followed in 2006.



At the moment EQUATRONIC are working on their 5th longplay album „Endorphine“ (which is a French word). „Endorphine“ will contain 12 songs. The realease is scheduled for February 2007.
