Quirky, intelligent, and rootsy, '07 Kerrville New Folk Finalist, Woody Guthrie Songwriting Contest Winner, and International Songwriting Contest finalist Emily Kurn, is "one of the exciting voices of folk music". (Miles of Music) With a bachelor's degree in Theater Arts and 20 years of performance experience ranging from classical ballet and voice, to piano and musical theater, Emily Kurn is undeniably at home onstage.

Since her relocation from the San Francisco Bay Area to Anchorage, Alaska 5 years ago, Emily has piled up a long list of songwriting awards. As sparkling and engaging in her writing as she is onstage, Kurn's new release, "Things Change," which was recorded at the Signature Sounds Studio, has charted 8 consecutive months on the FOLK-DJ Charts. In July, it charted at 6, a spot usually held by artists on a major record label. In December of 2007, her single "Light the Lamp" charted at 2. She has also charted on the Freeform Americana Charts and Roots charts.

In 2007, her song "If I Am American" was featured on the documentary "American Music: Off the Record" featuring Jackson Browne, Iris DeMent, and Noam Chomsky, among others
