a little about my heritage

Él the Self Image, born Thomas Olabode Itabiyi Jr., grew up in the streets of Anaheim with a passion for music. Though Houston Texas natives, mom picked up shop and moved to Los Angeles in 1988, following her divorce to Thomas Sr Los Angeles in 1988 was not the business, so in 1989, Mom moved once again to Anaheim. Growing up in Anaheim, Él found himself in a myriad of awkward social situations that forced him to think quick on his feet. His love for music began with R&B greats such as Boys II Men, Brian McKnight, Babyface, and the late Gerald Levert, but soon expanded to Hip-Hop trend setters such as Wu-Tang Clan, Tha Alkoholiks, Bone Thugs –n- Harmony, Dr. Dre, KRS-One, and of course, Tupac Shakur.

It wasn’t until high school that Él finally took his love for Hip-Hop music to the next level. At age 14 Él began writing raps in class, on message boards, the local parks, and anywhere else where he could be heard. At 16 he began to record his music with an ancient computer and a $20 Radio-Shack microphone and by 17 he was producing his own music via Fruity Loops and a cheap Yamaha keyboard. Around the middle of 2001, Él began working with Stay-Strap of the Mansion of Mayhem with his cousin, Shellz, who was already recording an album with Strap. Well, a lot of history is about to get skipped right here, but to sum it up, things fell apart with Shellz, and then again with Strap. However, durring there run, Él released two albums (better now?). “Reflection of Self” which was an extremely poorly recorded out-the-trunk type of production, and “Timeless” which has received great reviews and love from those who have taken the time to listen to it.

Él has worked with artists such as Deziak Clan, X-Streem, Lil-Ant, Ill-Lit, The Chise, Siccness, Noah Jones, and many more. He has rocked stages across California from San Diego to The Bay, as well as an appearance at a rave in Arizona. His craft has been sharpened to a fine point by his aggressive trial-and-error methodology. Now armed with his trusty Yamaha Motif workstation, Él not only spits, but he produces some of the most eloquent instrumentals in Hip-Hop today. The future is too bright to finish this bio now, so; to be continued…

I love Hip-Hop and it won't stop. I'm always down to work wit new artists, experienced or not. Hit me up.
