At the beginning of 2010, 22 year old students Brandon Contreras and Jordan Calhoun had an epiphany. After failing to get into what would have been a combined 5th trip to UCLA’s “oldest and greatest tradition” – “Spring Sing”, the pair felt it was time to prove to their peers that their newly formed duo, No Insurance, was capable of hanging with the big boys. Now in full swing with an increasing UCLA fan base and their first single, “Never Gonna Stop”, it’s clear that the team has taken a no regrets, no looking back approach to their music. The philosophy is embodied in their name, which they agreed upon after Calhoun purchased a pair of studio monitors to mix their first single together and opted to bypass the offer of insurance on the expensive equipment. “No insurance means the ‘what happens if this doesn’t work out’ thoughts are gone. No turning back, we’re gonna pursue our goals.”

“Hip hop music with skateboard flavor”, as their song “The New Year” describes, No Insurance’s unique sound features the influences of everyone from Blink 182 and New Found Glory to Lil Wayne and Eminem. Whether it’s writing about the trials of being a twenty-something in Los Angeles or the party-esque atmosphere at their live shows, nothing is ever left on the table. Playing like the soundtrack to an early 00s teen movie, Calhoun and Contreras have mastered the art of relating to their core audience. In addition to the two frontmen emcees, the band is also made up of guitarist Kabig Nigam, bassist Jason Scott and drummer, Garrett Harney.

Currently in the process of finishing up their debut EP and playing famous LA venues such as the Whisky & The Key Club, frat parties and UCLA events, No Insurance is already accelerating down a road that is all their own.
