lil-roc-Mayor Of Richmond Hip-Hop We all believe that hip-hop is dead. There have been dozens of reports in non-music associated magazines accusing hip-hop to be the downfall of urban life. In the time of the early nineties, hip-hop was one the most aspiring forms of entertainment for the urban youth. From the hustling to the righteous, the tongue-twisting to the poets, we all use to let hip-hop control the way we dress, talk even live. During these times we were introduced to major crews in hip-hop. From NWA to Wu-Tang Clan, these crews have provided hip-hop fans with the best variety of emcees since the Grandmaster Flash & Busy Bee days Usually, when hip-hop crews are given that stamp of approval from billboard critics to label heads, some of the crew members actually set forth solo careers and prosper extremely. Ahmed lil-roc Rahman, a Virginia native, with legendary producer DJ DIALLO, came in the game leading the group who were known locally as the UNION. The UNION have been creating music and performing up and down the mid-Atlantic region of the U.S from 1993-1998. Not happy with role of being leader and an artist, lil-roc decided to concentrate more on his solo projects. In 95' lil roc appeared on the Mad Skillz debut album "from where" on the song titled "unseen world." This was the first major label appearance for lil roc. While recording in such studios as Master Sound,(VA Beach) Chung King(New York), and Quad Studios(Los Angeles), lil-roc put together a number of records with entrepreneur Frazell Doe Harris, who was a local business man in Northside, Richmond. Doe & roc took trips to Hollywood,California a number of times to connect with big wigs in the west coast, to record and for photo shoots. The plan was to launch Does independent label Power Rec Entertainment, and establish lil-roc as the franchise artist. Two and a half years passed, Power Rec folded. so lil-roc was left with nothing but a tape full of songs with no outlet on getting signed to a label. Through the years of performing with The UNION and Power Rec, lil-roc associated with another Richmond-based crew known as the Supafriendz. The Supafriendz recorded, marketed and distributed their own records throughout Virginia, Maryland, the Carolinas, and the Washington DC area. The first album debut was a compilation of songs entitled Supafriendz-Vol. One, where lil-roc remade the Biz Markie classic Just a Friend with fellow Supafriend Diva Shawn Chappelle. The cut, which was called Friend Zone and it was done with the same idea as the Biz Markie version but with a twist, got great reviews from online music magazines and websites all over the world. After the success of Supafriendz-Vol. One followed Supafriendz-Vol. Two, where lil-roc had more participation on the project. The second compilation is the top-selling local CD in Virginia today. Now its the present and lil-roc is setting forth to put out his own record independently with his Union City imprint. With the help of Maurice & Tommy Edison, the three have formed The Edison Managment Group based in Atlanta, GA, Lil roc is about to change the game completely.
