eLECTRONICA dISCRETA is the artistic name of Juanjo Alba. The idea is to develop electric, random, rhythmic soundscapes, in which manipulation, distortion and fragmentation of any possible sound or loop. The starting point is to destruct in order to construct afterwards, sometimes existing sounds, others electrically generated original sounds.

eLECTRONICA dISCRETA is voltage controlled electricity, randomly controlled electricity. It is voltage controlled distortion, randomly controlled distortion.

Rhythms surprise. They’re not predictable. Not standard. The result is always a different sonority, emotionally loaded, scarcely rational, not predictable. Each song is a particular composition-concept. Listen to these songs is not easy, as it requires a rewarding personal exercise on understanding. But it is surprising once again. Interpretation is free. And always satisfactory.

BIO

Juanjo Alba is sound engineer and musical producer. He’s worked alongside some national and international artists like Félix da Housecat, Howie B., Manolo García, Enrique Bumbury, Marc Parrot, Ojos de Brujo, Muchachito Bombo Infierno, Dusminguet, and so on.

During the last few years he’s been the house engineer of one of the best studios in Catalonia and Spain, , Grabaciones Silvestres, owned by producer and engineer Marc Parrot.

Thanks to his collaboration with different producers, engineers and musicians, he’s acquired the knowledge to use audio gear in unusual ways to achieve his characteristic sonority. Using those tools in a creative way, so different from their intended use, is one of the main principles of his work.

Juanjo does not reject digital audio or gear. If the result is interesting, that’s enough. However, his great passion are analogue synths. He owns a small collection of analogue synths and drum machines. Tape delays and spring reverbs. Analogue sequencers. Vintage preamps and mics. Theremins, ribbon controllers. And a weird collections of stompboxes, some of them custom made for him. His preferred sonority is electricity, since it approximates a real and physical world, opposed to virtuality. Sound creation based on analogue and electrical tools produces a more visceral and emotional result, less rational than in a fully digital environment.

Nothing is predictable.
