A lot has happened since we last heard from this swedish singstress. Edith's voice suddenly makes you think of Marianne Faithful and many of the arrangements remind you of Morrissey and New Order. The sound is free but not fickle, happy but not cheery and the songs are dramatic but not over the top. The lyrics are either encouraging or descriptive and circle around breaking old habits, starting over and seeing the big picture however small the screen. Together with Swedish pop-producer Peter Kvint Edith has created a selection of songs with melodies that other Swedish recording artists can only dream about. Intimate verses and uncompromising choruses sneak in, hold you down and refuse to let go, finally leaving you with an unsettling craving for more.
Upcoming album "Dance in circles" was recorded on the top floor of a three story building, just above a treatment clinic for compulsive gamblers. Some of Swedens' most renowned pop-musicians were involved: Andreas Dahlbäck played the drums, Peter Kvint, Erik Jonsson and Daniel Bengtsson fought each other over the bass and Peter got dibs on the guitars. Struck by fever Edith went bananas on an old Steinway upright piano and found herself browsing through a Playboy magazine from 1975. All vocals, strings and brass were recorded at Peter's studio at Sankt Paulsgatan in Stockholm.
Good things come to those who wait and soon that wait will be over. The estimated release date in Sweden is September 2011.
Background:
In 2005 Edith Backlund released her first EP. And what a way to start off her career. First single "Waste Another Day" was featured in Swedish television series "Life according to Rosa."
The song "Catch Me When I Fall" was on the motion picture soundtrack to Swedish film "As you make your bed".
Finally American department store JC Penney's heard Edith's track "Sunday Morning" and decided to use it in their nation-wide TV- and radio ads
The debutalbum "Merely Daydreams" was released on the Swedish market in February 2006. The track "Burn Me and Blind Me" became Edith's second contribution to the television series "Life according to Rosa."
Edith went on a brief tour to Italy which was rounded up with a Tribute-show at Figino Serenza held in Towned Van Zandt's honor.
Neil Young commended Edith's anti-war song "Rosie" on his "Living with war"-website where his fans voted it the 10th top anti-war song out of over 400 published on the site.
The second album "Death By Honey" was released in April 2008. Producing the album was London-based pop-act "The Wannadies" frontman Pär Wiksten.
First single "True Believer" got fantastic air-play in Swedish radio but it was the albumtracks "Sincerely hope it's you" and "Suburban Bliss" that really pushed through as they were featured in one episode each of CWTV-series "One Tree Hill".
Edith toured with renowned Swedish singer Amanda Jenssen in Berlin, Vienna and Zürich and collaborated with the Swedish acts Elin Ruth Sigvardsson and Tom Malmqvist. She both played live and hosted numerous shows at Swedens biggest radio station P3.
Singles: "Waste another Day", "Much to Cry About", "Burn Me and Blind Me", "How does it feel", "True Believer", "Amen" and "Worry Sick".
