Gathering - The new CD from Earl Pickens & Family due out Sept. 7th, 2010.

Hi. Earl USA Pickens here. Thanks for stopping by my myspace page.Me and the family have recorded and released our acoustic version of the U2 album The Joshua Tree. Some folks are calling it alt. country and some are calling it bluegrass. Give it a listen and decide for yourself.

Our latest video from The Joshua Tree is just above. It features Earl Pickens & Family members Jessie Yamas and Bruce W. Derr and of course yours truly, Earl Pickens. Here are some nice things some fine people have said about Earl Pickens & Family's "The Joshua Tree":

“Stripped of The Edge’s in-your-face guitar effects and Bono’s dramatic wail, Pickens’s version allows U2’s rootsy influences to surface and blossom.”

— Helen Leicht, WXPN Philadelphia

“It’s a brave man who dares to do an acoustic take on U2’s “The Joshua Tree,” but Earl Pickens has the vision and the chops to pull it off. And more than being just a novelty, Earl’s album brings to light the Americana gospel roots lurking below the surface in U2’s music.”

— John Platt, WFUV, New York City

.and if that's not enough, here's some more nice things some fine people have said about my music:

“Skilled and clever songwriting.”

—The Village Voice

“A DANG GOOD TIME”

—TimeOut New York

“The songwriting is stellar, and Earl’s voice is very soulful. There’s a convincingness to the performances that are very heartfelt and real.”

—Bruce Warren, Program Director, WXPN Philadelphia

"Pickens . is a genius."

—The Daily Item

“He wields his guitar like it’s an electric cattle prod. Instead of “Amens,” he energizes the crowd with “Yeehaws!”

—Annabelle Magazine

“Enigmatic, yet oddly brilliant”

—Long Island Entertainment

“Heaps of fun and a whole lot of trouble.”

—Flavorpill

“Visceral music and songs about bowling.”

—Antimatters

“Roots-rock charged by competence and charm.”

—No Depression Magazine

“just filled with good songs.”

—David Dye, host World Cafe

Speaking about Country music Jukebox on his nationally syndicated NPR music program, World Cafe, Mr. Dye praised Earl’s solo debut and gave “Come On Up and Haunt Me Tonight” an on-air spin.

"Earl is very nice. You should buy his cds."

—Earl's Grandmother
