in calo. The story behind the artist and his music. Hard life he had to live away from home
and family.
Born and raised in Istanbul-Turkey, Aydin Can Kutluay Duquelo comes from a Ukranian ( Mergilian ) and his father side of the family decent from Selanik todays thessaloniki , sefarat & gypsy Background. He was born and raised in Turkey till the age of
14. He was exposed to romani gypsy music form the birth. His father owned a Taverna and a Hotel late a night club where romani gypys music was played live by the gypsies all summer long. Beginning at the age of 14, he is the first musician to combine
Romani and Turkish Alla Turka Rhythms along with flamenco music. Introducting 9 , 7 and 5 rhythms to flamenco in 1997 in his project with T.G.A.S. and Armenian Ney player Arman Aras, he added new colors and rhythms to flamenco music. Aydin is a self-taught Gypsy guitarist and taught for 2 years at Latin Music Institute. In particular, he significantly contributed to the music scene in Orlando in 2003, putting together a 13 piece group called Ritmo Gitano, meaning Gypsy Rhythm. He is the only Flamenco Guitarist in Turkey that combines flamenco with Pure Roman Gypsy music and Ala Turca.
Utilizing music from all over the world while inviting established International artists to partake in events has contributed to Ritmo Gitano's achievements. Aydin performed in several parties hosted by the Mayor of Orlando, along with other various patrons including Bong Vodka & Bacardi Rum, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, City View Corporation, Kress, Arab American Community Center, Turkish Federation, Mercedes-Benz of South Orlando, Key Investment Group, and much more. He attended Full Sail in Orlando for recording engineering and worked with many different styles of music as well. He recorded and produced many tracks and albums for Carribean and Jamaican Reggae artists such as Mala Blow , Jahkid and Safar-i . His vision is to combine all the music world has to offer in to a one unique style and synthesize the universal emotions and techniques within those cultures.
Aydin appeared in many articles after he perfomed with his band for the Gucci , Dolce Gabana , Prada , Neuman Marcus & Cavalli fashion shows in Orlando. A 30 minute TV program was dedicated to his life on Channel 6- ECHO, as well as a 2 page review on his music written by the Orlando Sun Sentinel. Various journalists including Silvio E. G. Cioffi and others wrote a plethora of rviews toward this foundation.
He has shared the stage, recorded, and played with worlds most respected musicians as Paco de lucia , Burhan Ocal , Fazil Say , Attila Aydemir , Montse Cortez , Chonchi Heredia , Pirana , Alain Perez ,Grammy winner Klezmatics Matt Darriu , Dj Sacha & Digweed , Claudia Calderon , La Trio Joubran, Antonio Serrano , Ismail Luminovski, Oscar Garica , Giovani Hidalgo, John Henry Gates, Diego Ibora Drummer for Miles Davis , Charley Parker , Billy Holiday , A , Franklin, etc. He continues as one of the leading figures for World music and flamenco scene in the world today. He accompanied many Andalucian and Hispanic Flamenco dancers in class rooms and stages such as Raquel Tacon who worked with Belen Maya from spain , La Magdelena from Seville , Rosa La Huracana ,La Canela from Jerez spain , La Maruja , La Maja etc.
Aydin was invited to Orlando Gypsy Heritage Festival as the main act for 3 years in a row.
He was invited to join Paco de Lucia at his party and handed a guitar by him to accompany
bulerias along with the Paco de lucia and his band. As a gypsy guitarist he even shared stage with Lil Wayne Wizzy and Cash Money in Club Taboo 2003 fathers day Bash.
He will also be recording a new album with Mircan Kaya Turkish Traditional and Experimental singer from Mergilian background . Mircan also has a big influence in his musical life. Aydin started guitar when he was handed a Hand Made flamenco guitar from his mother. She also brougth flamenco records from Spain when she visited Andalucian Shores. He was accepted to Oguz Abadan Flamenco Conservatory at the age of 14 but he chosed to train him self in the streets of Sulukule and in summers Bulgarian border towns in a region Called Trakya. His father has one explanation to his musical talent I brought the finest gypsy players to his mothers hospital room when she was giving birth. passion and ambition towards music helps him to be humble and learn as much as he can from his enviroment and the musicians he plays with. After Marrying Italian & Mexican decent Opera Singer Jessica Rosas Kutluay Aydin merged his music with Italian Opera and Native Chants of Aztec and Ancient Mexico. Aydin also open the doors for UCF musicians to learn and understand what is world music , gypsy music and flamenco is. His music has been mention in classrooms by UCF University of Centeral Florida Proffesors and his Tickets from his concert consider as extra credit for certain classes in UCF. He was invited to 21st
Annual National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education by Arab American
Institute Foundation as a Guest speaker on the history of Flamenco and the influance of Arabic music in flamenco. He also perform in this Conference to demonstrate the forms of music which influance the flamenco most and a bulerias from his new album. In this site you can hear some of his early work when he began to play and compose his style of music. Aydin performs for the The Baraka Art Collection events and still is the most requested solo guitarist and his band is most wanted entertainment group In Orlando Today. He performs in NYC. , W.D.C , Miami , Palm Beach , Orlando , Spain.
