It's "new record promotion time," and that means here comes the biography most likely written by a band member in third person. Its written that way so we look legitimate and you'll buy our new album "Mana," on October 10th. Let's try something new.
I'm sitting down trying to write about us and as always, it feels pretentious and lame. So I think after five years in this band, I can cut to the point.
This is a record that almost didn't happen for so many reasons. In the Fall of 2007, the band was taking its dying breath after a jaded effort in its first release. Derek was in several other bands with more direction than us. Brendan and I focused on finishing school. Also, we'd just lost a guitarist that was our best friend, and no matter how many tryouts we had, no replacement had been found. Things were unraveling and we knew it.
Then came Scott; A guy who tried out, then said no when we offered him the gig, then changed his mind. To make a story full of details short, we hit it off and were writing new material within weeks. Songs that challenged us to be better in every way.
It took us two years. We wrote twenty songs so we could keep eleven. To make the record, we went to Cole Martinez and Rob Montague in Lakewood who seemed to share our vision for the album more than any of the others we talked to. Alan Douches mastered the record. He's a guy that's worked with Thrice, Atreyu, Underoath and he did the Duke Nukem Soundtrack. Yeah, the goddamned Duke Nukem soundtrack guru throws down on our record.
As far as content goes, its a record that goes internal. If our first effort was us pointing at the world around us, this record is a look in the mirror. Songs range in theme from death to life. From love to self-loathing. From friendship to murder. We grew up making this record and spilled our guts on it. And in our humble opinion, it shows.
So this is our introduction to you after being away for awhile. A completely one-sided but necessary and current biography. We're Drop to Zero. Our new record is the best thing we've done and we would love to share it with you. Get ready.
