Douaumont is what you could call a veteran in making music. He was born in the Netherlands, in a little village called Ruurlo. Starting as a student with several Punk/GarageRock-bands he played guitar and occasionally sang. He performed several times throughout his native country, the Netherlands, but as his post-College career pushed forwards, he didn't found the time for it anymore. Regretting this ever since he found his way to computers, which was kind of easy for him, working in IT ever since the segment became widely known. At the end of the 90's, after having listened to the likes of Portishead, Moby, Tricky, Massive Attack and so on, and computers now being capable of handling music in a decent way he obtained Cubase. After experimenting a lot with it he found that this program and others like it were mainly used to make straight four-to-the-floor tunes. For a while this was OK, and he made several, now terribly sounding "dance" tunes. Realising this type of music wasn't what he was looking for at the beginning of the new decade, he went looking for a different type. What he wanted to do was more 60's based tunes, firmly steeped in beautiful melodies, the way he knew from when he was young: being raised on the old 50's and 60's records of his dad, he always kept a strong love for this music. He started digging through his dad's records and his own 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's sides, armed with a cassettedeck, turntables and a computer containing a copy of Reason to process for decent samples and melodies. This work started in 2001 and by 2004 his quest was grossly done: a collection of thousands of usable samples were there stored on CD's and tapes. After this he purchased a decent Sequencer to work with all the samples he collected. It took him about half a year to fully understand the program and start making the new tunes he wanted to make. Unfortunately his move to Ireland put a temporary halt to this activity, but he grabbed every opportunity when visiting his home country to experiment and soon he found out that his tunes became better and better and that he slowly but surely began to get the hang of it. When early 2006 he finally got his equipment shipped over to Ireland (there were several reasons for the delay) he was able to start full fledged to work on his music. He decided also to put his musical knowledge to work to make intelligent tunes as he got bored of the repetitive character of the dance-music which is usually made with computers. The first result was a track called "Padania" a massive melody with a more than solid trip-hop beat was very well received on Ireland biggest musician's website, cpu.ie. It was number one on the dance download chart for two weeks and got a spot on two internet radiostations, one of which compiled by the webmasters of named site and regarded by them as one of the best tunes on the entire website. Ever since, Douaumont (named after a French fort which was severely battered in WW1, during the battle of Verdun) has been putting up melodies and tunes which get good reviews all of the times and improving his skills. The three track you will find here are his latest ones, two of which are coming from his demo album "Monticello" and his new demo album in progress "I don't think this relationship is gonna work out". What you will hear are very lovely melodies to fall in love with or to die for, accompanied by a firm down-tempo beat and an overall darkish, gloomy atmosphere. One of the finest comments Douaumont has ever got in his now 5 month old music making history in Ireland is that a befriended musician congratulated him for having already his own style, very recognisable as a Douaumont-tune. Hope you will enjoy the tunes here and if you want to hear more, please also visit my site at cpu.ie. Thank you for visiting me!
