Renowned Irish singer/songwriter, Don Mescall, connects with audiences through his intensely personal lyrics and raw honesty in delivery, with comparisons being drawn to the styles of Paul Simon, David Gray and Sting.

With his career still climbing rapidly, Don is already recognised as one of the leading lights in songwriting in the UK, Ireland and US. His songs have shone as international hits for a wide range of Folk, Pop and Country stars such as Rascal Flatts, The Backstreet Boys, Ronan Keating & Kate Rusby, Lulu, the legendary Richie Havens, Frances Black and the multi-platinum American artist Neal McCoy. His most recent projects are now flourishing for Boyzone, Clay Aiken, and best-selling Canadian artist Garou.

But it is as a live performer that Don Mescall truly shines. His delivery is highly charged with emotion, rooted in his Irish charm, humour and sensitivity. He is an individual who absorbs the complexities of life, feels its effects deeply and reflects that back with grace to touch an audience often in ways that they can’t readily comprehend.

By reaching back with honesty into such harsh personal tragedies as the loss of his father as a young boy and a broken marriage in recent years, Don's songs range from story-telling vehicles of humanity at its most fragile to uplifting anthems of hope and spirituality.

"When I'm singing, I open a little trap door in my head that takes me right back to where and when I wrote the song and all those emotions come flooding back". dm

What the media say:

"Daily doses of Don Mescall as artist, as writer, or both will lead to good musical health" - Paul Gambaccini, BBC Radio 2

"His music may be influenced by Tom Waits, Stephen Stills and Joni Mitchell but ultimately it reflects the poetic side of his soul" - Time Out

"Mescall captures his audience like a young Paul Simon" - Austin Chronicle

"Don Mescall writes bittersweet love songs and memorable ballads of youth with a sensitivity that cannot be synthesised" - Irish Post

"There is something unavoidably poetic and beautiful about Mescall's lyricism" * * * * * - Irish World News

Originally from Lisnagry in Co. Limerick, Southern Ireland, Don's music grew from the infamous pubs of Ireland and led to opening for the great Richie Havens at the Mean Fiddler in London. As Don warmed up with a new song, called Paradise, Havens heard the track and fell in love with it. Paradise can be found on Richie's 2002 album "Wishing Well".

Performing is a major part of Don's career, touring regularly in Ireland and the UK including the UK's major festivals.

“A blistering performance at GuilFest!” – Janice Long, BBC Radio 2

“There's a certain effortless poignancy to Don’s material that suggests Glastonbury could be just the first of many famous stop-offs"

– Hotpress

As a songwriter, Don works alone and also co-writes, regularly based in the songwriting heartland of Nashville, Tennessee. He now works with some of the most respected creative minds in the industry and Grammy Award winners, including Randy Goodrum, LeAnn Rimes, Graham Lyle, Steve Robson, and Craig Wiseman who can claim an incredible thirteen No.1 hits and 40 million albums sold.

Moving right up to date, Don has recently celebrated three major songwriting successes with two of the world's biggest bands. His song, "Secret Smile", on the new Rascal Flatts album, made it to the No.1 position in the Billboard 200 album chart AND Country chart. Meanwhile, The Backstreet Boys also stormed the album charts with their new album featuring Don's song, "Trouble Is". Having two songs in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 album chart at once is believed to be a first for any Irish songwriter.

Despite his ongoing growth as a songwriter and artist, all the historical references remain strong in Don’s sound and soul – his undeniably Irish narrative, the influence of the classic songwriters of his youth, and echoes of his long-standing bond with the guru that is Richie Havens.
