The Detelefunk label (home to Detroit Grand Pubahs) takes a side step from their usual house, techno and electro releases to introduce their new Deteledub series. For the first instalment, step up Domgue.

Hailing from Liege in Belgium, Domgue (aka Dominique Gerin) actually received his stage name in the ghettos of Haiti, where he spent several years. As a classically trained musician with a background in jazz, his addiction to the tenor sax as well as a love of sub bass, has led him to combine those two forces into this intelligently produced 3-tracker.

Domgue first grabbed the Pubahs’ attention when they heard him perform sax with the Underground Resistance showcase of Galaxy 2 Galaxy and Los Hermanos, at a benefit gig for the tsunami disaster in 2005. Since then Domgue has regularly performed with both Los Hermanos and Detroit Grand Pubahs in their live shows. But it’s his original take on the dubstep sound that now launches him as an independent producer in his own right.

On ‘Funk Step’ we get the first taster of his beloved sub bass experimentations, blended with a lazy dub groove and funk-fuelled beats. Next, ‘So Bale’ is a dark, spooky ride though late-night territory. While ‘There is no Way’ combines typical Domgue dubness with a glitchy guitar riff and off kilter frequencies.

With more dubstep madness to come from this budding producer, Domgue is proving himself to be a real find!
