Over their ten-plus years together as a band, Doc Walker has become known as one of the hardest working acts in Canadian Country Music. Their seventh studio album "16 & 1," hits stores on August 29, 2011 and is a distinct reflection of their perseverance as a band. Recorded in lead singer Chris Thorsteinson's home town of Westbourne, Manitoba, in the band's recently purchased and converted studio that was once the school that Chris attended as a youth, logically named 'Old School Studios.'
On 16 & 1, aptly named for the highway intersection where the newly converted studio stands, the band used a live off the floor process for the recording giving the album a distinctly different feel, yet retaining the sense and character of Doc Walker that the band's fans have come to know and love. 16 & 1 features eight original songs including the hot new single "Country Girl," as well as covers of Bob Seger's "Get Out Of Denver," and Crash Test Dummies "I Think I'll Disappear Now," featuring guest vocalist Brad Roberts.
Over the span of their career, the trio has garnered some of the Canadian Music Industry's highest awards, taking home a total of 11 CCMA wins including Album, Single and Songwriters of the Year for their 2008 release 'Beautiful Life', and the coveted 'Fan's Choice Award' for the same year. In 2009 Doc Walker earned the Juno Award for Country Recording of the Year. Most recently, the band received four nominations for the 2011 CCMA including the Fans' Choice Award, Group or Duo of the Year, the CMT Video of the Year, and Country Music Program or Special of the Year.
In late August Doc Walker will travel to Australia to perform as one of the headlining acts at the 2011 Optus Gympie Music Muster.
Fans can get a behind-the-scenes look into the making of "16 & 1" through the group's newly launched "Raw, Live & Intimate" video series. New videos are featured weekly at www.docwalker.ca, and be on the lookout for Doc Walker's "Are You With Me Tonight?" national tour, set to kick off in November.
