Nicholas 'Doc Prop' Minniti is an aspiring artist, writer, and producer who strives to bring individuality and life's everyday experience to an audible medium. Born and raised in the scenic San Francisco Bay Area, he was raised by a single mother and learned of the many hardships of life at a very young age. He soon found that his solace and release were in the form of a pen and blank slate; coupled with a wild imagination and an urge for self-expression, he began to write. During his early school days he received much recognition and was rewarded 'Best Creative Writer,' particularly excelling in short stories, poetry, and public speaking. He continued his passion throughout high school and then attended Chico State where he studied music theory, orchestration and arrangement, and business, to name a few. He graduated in 2008, with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Industry and Technology.
In the year 2000 Doc Prop, (then known as 'Mac Chete') founded Con-Artist Productions, an independent record label and overall entrepreneurial venture. It then became official in 2003, when he alongside a few close friends released the label's first album entitled 'Caliunion,' and gave their first live performance at a backyard house party in Chico to promote the album's publication. From that point forward 'C.A.P.' took to the skies. In 2004 the label released a compilation project, 'Microphone Militia: Boot Camp,' which hosted 20 tracks and 22 different artists and caught the eye of the local newspaper which gave it a 4/5 rating. In 2005, Doc Prop spent a considerable amount of time in Los Angeles working in conjunction with SoCal Records to release the uptempo and club-ready album 'Matchstick Men,' then quickly followed with his first solo release 'Ghostwriter Jones EP' in early 2006. Again gaining notoriety, a local publication noted that the album "nicely supplements the growing Con-Artist Productions catalog," as Doc Prop displayed a versatile repertoire of producing, engineering, and even collaborating with a live rock band. Shortly thereafter, Doc Prop along with the Con-Artist crew landed a performance as the opening act for Salvador Santana, (son of Carlos Santana), at Blake's, a historical venue in the heart of the Bay Area's cultural melting-pot, Berkeley, CA.
By this time C.A.P. had really taken off, playing gigs around California as well as promoting their own apparel line. In the spring of 2007, Doc Prop with fellow label mate Blitz and new-comer producer Consequence the Lost Cause formed the hip-hop entourage Baysic and released the album 'Proper Noc.' It soon became a fan favorite amongst many college towns, catching the ear with hard hitting beats, catchy choruses, and sharp-witted lyrics. Around the same time the adroit artist also participated in a live band which featured drums, bass guitar, and lap steel slide guitar, (executed by the multi-talented and Chico veteran Marcus Anderson). The band, (known as Pariah), played a slew of shows and recorded a live demo before making an early dispersal due to member re-location and busy schedules. Meanwhile, starting work on the second Baysic album, the group recruited another seasoned producer into the mix, Swoosh, which added a much more complete sound and complemented the cast perfectly with his full-orchestrated style of beat making.
Nearing the completion of the album in 2008, Doc Prop decided to take some time off from the studio to focus on producing, performing, and strengthening his label. Linking up with the effervescent and raucous turntablist, DJ Furious Stylez, Doc Prop produced and co-mixed two albums for the DJ which solidified him in the local club scene, created a major web buzz, and eventually gained him reputation in Las Vegas, NV where he now works and resides. Approaching the summer, Doc Prop was contacted by a Bay Area promoter and offered a time slot on a 'Battle of the Bands' show, which was sponsored by Comcast and aired on 'On-Demand.' He quickly jumped at the opportunity to feature his group Baysic on TV and during the six-week broadcast the group was also invited to be a feature performer during the 6th Annual Bay Area Arts & Music Festival in the bayside city of Emeryville, CA.
Back in the lab, 2010 marked the year Doc Prop released his first full-length solo album. The self-titled project reflected years of hard work; complemented with national known features and an array of unique production, Doc Prop also linked back up with slide guitarist Marcus Anderson who contributes to accenting half of the album. Along with its release came a compilation of 28 different artists and producers entitled 'Friends of the Family,' showcasing some of Doc Prop's many collaborations from over the years. His solo release may be found on iTunes, Amazon, and many other digital retail stores and the compilation project can be downloaded for free at docprop.bandcamp.com.
