Hello all and welcome to my SPACE!
Stuff about me.
Im based in South East London, UK. I've been DJ'ing now for near 15 years and collecting music for even longer. I cut my teeth as a HipHop DJ playing small partys and doing mixtapes. As a fan of all sorts of music, when given free reign on the decks as a DJ, expect an eclectic mix of funk, breaks, house, dubstep, drum n bass and anything else that sounds good!
I hold no prejudice with music, if its good, I will play it!
I am an advocate of the old skool mentality of the original hiphop DJs, which was to search out funky, rockin breaks from whatever sort of music.
I love to DJ! Playing music to others and rockin partys is my passion. Around 1998, I saw a video of DJ QBert which introduced me to the world of turntablism. It totaly changed the way I look at decks!
I upgraded to my first set of Technics Decks and scratch mixer and got practicing! Over the years, I have learned to incorporate the turntablism into my sets withou over doing it, keeping the focus on the music, but still show the skills! I entered the UK DMC a few years back, making it to the London finals but got knocked out by DJ Skully. I feel better knowing he went on to win the UK title! I may enter again, but finding the time to put together a set on top of other obligations has held me back.
I once played with a Jazz outfit kow as The Naked Sunday Collective (or N.S.C, check www.nsc-live.com) where we combined turntablism with live jazz & breaks. Founded by the incredible musician Rob Jacob (R.I.P). Not long afterhis death played Glastonbury in 2005 which was an incerdible tribute and a stand out moment in my musical career. Other highlights include warming up for Courtney Pine at the London Jazz Festival 2004. Things with NSC have been put on hold for a little while as Bev is taking time out whilst S'Ensha & Snare are doing BIG things with the Subsource project
Im looking to start up my own label - TRIFID PRODUCTIONS. The first 12" - 'Shake Ya Cellulite' feat MC Angel is available now on limitid white label or as a digital download from iTunes. A selection of TRIFID mixtapes, hosted by artists I have been working with, plus a whole bunch of remixes and promos.
You can catch me every other Sunday afternoon on ForceFM 106.5 or forcefm.net. The Sunday Sessions with DJ Shorty & MC Kingpin.
I originaly handled the Hip Hop show on a Wednesday night but the new Sunday show has a much broader format. I like to take the oppertunity to play a bit of everything. Old and new, all flavas, whilst striving to push new unsigned talent. We try to promote as much underground music as possible, maintaining the spirit of what pirate radio was all about, ' You heard it here first!'
One major priority, supporting homegrown UK talent. Since the start of the show in 2006, it has gone from strength to stregth with a succession of quality acts passing through and blessing the set.
All the shows as well as a bunch of mixtapes are available online via my mixcloud page
