DJ SABOTAGE got his 1st taste of Djing in the Dancehalls. He played for a sound called Leo Sonic, QUEENS, NYC. A Jamaican Sound System based out of B’s Kitchen in Laurelton Queens, NYC. He got his Name DJ SABOTAGE from The Leo Sonic Crew because of the way he Clashed Crews in the Area and surrounding Boroughs. DJ SABOTAGE would play endless hits luring the competition into thinking he had played everything and then would just smash on them w/ DUB PLATES and RUDE BWOY TUNES when the time was right. It is safe to say that DJ SABOTAGE is a true lover of Reggae just as much as he is of Hip Hop.
DJ SABOTAGE born Shawn L. Turner hails from Jamaica Queens, NYC. The Borrough that birthed greats like, Run DMC, L.L. Cool J, Nas, Mobb Deep, Kool G. Rap, Salt-N-Peppa, Lost Boys, 50 Cent and that’s just to name a few. DJ SABOTAGE, grew up in the Mecca of Hip Hop in the 80’s and 90’s era when Hip Hop was all about Creativity, Trendsetting, Skills, and Straight Up PARTYING! I grew up on and pay my respects to DJ’s like, Kid Capri, Doo Wop, Ron G, Funk Flex, S&S, Big Kap, Johnny Wishbone, and Jam-Master Jay, R.I.P.
DJ SABOTAGE shipped off to Colorado in the summer of 1990 to attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. It was there that he really developed his craft of Djing on a Skill Level and a Business Level. He would get hired to do Fraternity and Sorority Parties for CSU and UNC. These parties caught the attention of a local Night Club Manager and the opportunity to bring real Hip Hop to a real Night Club setting was brought to DJ SABOTAGE. It was at that point the road to becoming one of Colorado’s Top and Most Respected DJ’s began. That Night Club was Fort Ram, the Biggest Hip Hop Night Club Promotion in the State of CO. Seeing numbers as High as 2000 patrons consistently for Hip Hop Every Friday night. It gave DJ SABOTAGE the title of 1 of the Founding Influences of Hip Hop in Northern Colorado. From Fort Ram DJ SABOATGE went to THE NEW YORK CAFÉ, another successful Hip Hop Night in Fort Collins, CO. DJ SABOTAGE from there moved on to partner up with Chuck Jonz, Eric McAdams, And Gino Campana to Build and Start up Suite 152, FoCO. A Night Club that has been up and running for 11 years now. There arent many Club owners and or Promoters that can say they’ve had a run like that and are still going. DJ SABOTAGE is proud to be a part of this and it continues under his promotional direction today.
The notoriety and the branding of DJ SABOTAGE produced more opportunity. He got recruited by The Radio Bums, one of Colorado’s Most Respected DJ Crews started by the World Famous DJ CHONZ in 2000, soon after DJ SABOTAGE was hired as a mixer for KS 107.5 (KQKS). Recognizig the 120 mile commute between Fort Collins and Denver almost Daily doing Night Clubs and Radio for years, Interscope Records Awarded him “Hardest Working DJ of the Year" in 2000, Scene Magazine Awarded The Suite from 2002 to 2007 the Best Dance Club Award, DJ SABOTAGE would go on to Grace the Cover Fushion Magazine, get featured in SCRATCH MAGAZINE, Fly Magazine, and OZONE MAGAZINE. DJ SABOTAGE moved on from KS 107.5 to Mega 95.7 (KMGG) in 2006 to become a Mixer under Program Director DJ PSYCHO, Radio Bum Crew and then eventually moved on 98.9 Magic Fm (KKMG) where he is currently the Mix Show Coordinator, Mixing on the Air Monday thru Friday w/ Co-host K. Cheeba 10pm to Mid. on the “Sound Lab”. In addition to doing commercial radio, DJ SABOTAGE became a member of the Elite World Famous Violator All Star DJ’s and is now one of the featured mixers on the Violator All Star DJ's Uncut Radio Show on Sirius|XM Radio every Saturday night on Hip Hop Nation, 10pm to Mid EST. In 2008 DJ SABOTAGE also won the SCION HYPEMAN OF THE YEAR, West Coast.
Through out His career as a Cutting Edge, Trendsetting World Wide Respected DJ, DJ SABOTAGE has rocked at Night Clubs and Concert Venues in (New York) Exit, Q Club, The W, Sue’s,( Las Vegas) Rum Jungle, Foundation Room, (New Mexico) Take Over Tour (Utah) Take Over Tour (San Diego) D.E.C.O.S (Los Angelas) Bungalo, (Texas) Take Over Tour (Pittsburgh) Fennigans Wake, (Salt Lake City), (Orlando) Firestone, (D.C.) Dream and has Rocked with and opened up for JAY-Z, 50 CENT, ICE CUBE, NAS, FAT JOE, SNOOP, 112, FOXY BROWN, KID CAPRI, DJ CHONZ, SEAN PAUL, ASHANTI, NELLY, COMMON, Q-TIP, BUSTA RHYMES, RIHANNA, and Many More.
