There are few artists in the electronic underground that can do it all the way that Mike Hiratzka does. As a DJ whose sets have elicited superlatives such as “legendary” and “f**king awesome”, he has traveled the globe delivering his signature mix of funky tech house, progressive and techno. Whether it’s a peak hour set at a beachside hotspot in Bali, or one of Mike’s legendary five-hour tag team sets with Lee Burridge in Hollywood, Mike constantly rocks the house. But Mike doesn’t just play other people’s music; he is also a highly respected artist, producer, and remixer whose tracks set the tone for the night and have garnered him a fervent global following.

After several years of DJing and cutting his teeth in the studio in the thriving Florida club scene of the mid 90’s, Mike signed his first major release to Ultra Records. Soon after, one of his tunes was championed by John Digweed, who caned it worldwide for most of 2001 including a highlight appearance on his Essential Mix live from Homelands. Next came a highly successful collaboration with fellow DJ/producer Kazell, which yielded three singles for Desyn Masiello’s esteemed imprint Alternative Route Recordings, and an appearance on Sander Kleinenberg’s This is Everybody Too compilation for Renaissance. Mike’s remix of Innerstate – Sidewinder was an instant hit with Hernan Cattaneo, who played it the very night he was given it at the club and then put it on his Renaissance Masters Vol. 2 CD. More recently, Paul Van Dyk featured one of Mike’s tracks on his end of the summer Essential Mix 2009. Over the years Mike’s productions have appeared on labels such as Nettwerk, Lost Language, Baroque, Curvve, Spundae, and Cyber, and on dozens of mix compilations.

For the past few years, Mike has turned his attention to running the highly respected progressive label Lost Angeles Recordings, alongside fellow DJ and producer D:Fuse. Since the label’s inception, the duo has built a solid fan base with their artist album Skyline Lounge, two mix compilations, and over 20 chart-topping singles and remixes. Not content just to DJ their own music, they have performed it live at major venues across the US including Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto night at Rain in Las Vegas, Ruby Skye in San Francisco, Circus in Los Angeles and Ibiza in Washington DC. In addition to engineering and mastering all of his label’s releases, Mike’s schedule is constantly filled with remixes for artists like Delerium (with whom Mike also toured as a member of the band in 2008), DJ Rap and Trent Cantrelle, and labels including Internet phenomenon Steve Porter’s Porterhouse Recordings.

2010 looks to be Mike’s biggest year yet. He has been collaborating in the studio with John Graham (aka Quivver) on a new album and band project that already has the major labels buzzing. In the works is a full 5-piece touring group with John on vocals and Mike on guitar, keyboards and backing vocals, and expected to hit the road this summer. Another of Mike’s projects receiving major-label attention is his production work with Denver-based vocalist and DJ Lea Luna. The two have been writing and producing together for several years, and just recently her tracks have been blowing up the Beatport charts and gaining serious momentum. Be on the lookout from more music from this dynamic duo in the near future!
