Originally from Central Florida, Jimi Merlo a.k.a JimiTheGenius started mixing Miami Bass and Breaks in 1996. In 1998, he packed his bags and headed to South Florida to be closer to the home of the sound he loved so much. On his arrival, he quickly teamed up with Quantum Records, 305 Metrix, and also absorbing everything he could from XeroDefx at Tekmind Records. Once he was comfortable with the knowledge that he had acquired. His DJ/Production career was on its way. Dropping Bass pounding sets for years in South Florida, most notably as resident DJ for world renowned Culture Productions. In March of 2003, his first record release " Identifi " was released on Tekmind.com. With its pounding bass and futuristic soundscapes, "Identifi " has rocked the dance floors time and time again.
Later in 2003, Jimi joined forces with his good friend Ash-Rock and formed the Electro Bass group, Hydraulix. www.facebook.com/hydraulix808 Their first commercial release as Hydraulix, which was released on their self owned imprint (co-owned with Merlyn), Kuad Recordings. The buzz which "The Hydraulix E.P." generated, was unimaginable and props began to role in for the duo. Since then, the pair has been solicited for tracks by world famous artists such as Andrea Parker, Scratch-D, Exzakt, and the Cyberian Knights (a collective of some of the hottest artists in Electro including Dynamix II, Jackel and Hyde, Bass Junkie, and Dexorcist to name a few.
In 2007, Jimi joined forces once again with Ash-Rock to form Hydroz. Straight from Miami the "Home of the Bass" The Hydroz style varies from Miami Bass edits to Electro House to Mash-Ups and anything else in between. They remixed Babyanne's "Thumper" which was released on Zone and Deekline & Ed Solo track "Lo Rider". They are always currently working on a ton of new bootlegs for the clubs! Be out on the look out for this down and dirty duo, their bass bumpin beats & dirty low end remixes have been damaging dance floors left & right!!!
Once again The Genius has teamed up with an old friend Joey "Supernaut". They both have been djing in the South Florida scene for quite some time now. In 2008 the year of of the 808, they formed $uper Geniu$. A down low devastating duo that pumps nothing but low end frequencies. Hailing from the South and working dance floors threw out the east coast and west coast. These two have always dropped nothing else but the heat and have no intentions on stopping. They are currently working on new material and have a release on illeven:eleven recordings featuring Sporty-O "When That Beat Drops" They've also remixed Danny Quattro "Feel It" which is out on Gigabeat.us. They are currently working on a new EP "Life Down Low" which will be out on Kuad Recordings.
In 2011 GhettoStyle was born This is the new project from two Miami producers who have been in the bass game for some time now, AshRock & JimiTheGenius a.k.a. Hydraulix. Taking a different approach and not bound by genres GhettoStyle has been busy crafting remixes and originals which will start popping up in the near future. With his dark melodies and bone crushing Electro Beats, JimiTheGenius has quickly become a worldwide favorite. His mixing skills combined with a slew of new Hydraulix & Hydroz tracks set for release on Kuad Recordings and on a variety of labels.
