Jean was already one of the most versatile hip-hop DJs in the Netherlands when he caught the new house virus in the late 1980s. Manfred Langer had just opened the legendary iT in Amsterdam, and asked Jean to take over the Friday night show in this club. Madhouse was born and quickly grew to become the hottest club night in the Netherlands, if not the world. DJ Jean's faultless choice of tracks and his perfect feel for the public have brought many dance floors to a state of ecstasy. The series of iT CDs that Jean and his fellow resident Marcello have released was not only the best-selling CD series of the 1990s, but also brought about the definitive breakthrough for house music in the Netherlands.
The reputation of both Jean and Madhouse grew steadily throughout the 1990s. Madhouse parties in clubs such as the Lexion, Matrixx and Escape were all great successes. As a producer, Jean has scored a number of big hits throughout his career, but the worldwide success of The Launch astounded friends and foes alike. Millions of copies of this essential classic have been sold around the world. Jean travels the globe to bring huge crowds to a state of ecstasy, from Russia, Germany, and England to South Africa and Surinam. For many years, DJ Jean's prestigious Madhouse podium has been a popular draw at important festivals such as Dance Valley and Trance Energy.
Thanks to his successful radio show on Slam!FM, he has also earned a following among the youngest generation of clubbers. DJ JEAN, a name who left his indelible traces in the contemporary national and international club scene. Well known for his turntable "skills", his notoriously rebellious dissolute lifestyle and especially as a dedicated DJ! ?He was also one of the first and very few DJ’s who gained his well earned status of a real Dutch celebrity! Jean is distinctive and overloaded with multiple awards, such as the SENA Award, an award for most played Club DJ on Dutch radio in the past ten years, he has been voted as BEST CLUB DJ for several times ! On top of that, he recently, late in 2009, received the very prestigious SLAM FM Ouvre Award! ?There are also numerous nominations at big Award shows like the TMF AWARDS and SILVER STAR DANCE in the UK .
