After seeing DMC competitor Alejan scratch up a storm on the turntables it didnt take long for Flagrant to realize Hip-Hop was what he wanted to live and pursue for the rest of his days. Starting out on one Sony turntable, he would practice scratching for hours on end, trying to replicate the DMC flavour that caught his eye and the rest as they say is history.
Born in Australia, raised in the USA, Flagrant moved back to his hometown of Melbourne in 1999 and his name has since become synonymous with Australia's Urban music scene. Over the past decade Flagrant has put in work both on the battle scene and club circuit, having DJ'ed all over the country, competing in the DMC (and placing second in the Team Category of the 2003 DMC National Finals) and later bringing the I.T.F. World DJ Battle back to Australia in 2004. Since retiring from battling, Flagrant now teaches the revered scratch course at DMC Records and judges the Australian DMC Finals every year.
Now fast forward to 2008 and we see Flagrant release his first "legal" mixtape entitled "Homegrown Hip-Hop Vol. 1" through Grindin' Records which received 5 star ratings in both street press and online media. A top seller, the mixtape sold out of it's first pressing and is currently out-of-stock.
Beyond his work as a DJ, Flagrant moved into the realm of artist management in 2004 and has since established himself as one of the prominant business figures of the Urban music scene in Australia. Flagrant now has 2 of Australia's finest artists on his management roster - Phrase and M-Phazes, both of whom are at the top of their game with Phrase currently the only rapper in Australia signed to a major label (Universal Records) and the world renowned M-Phazes who has produced for artists such as Pharoahe Monch, CL Smooth, Freeway, Heltah Skeltah & Royce Da 5'9".
While the list of achievements and scope of work is impressive, its still behind the decks where Flagrant holds court.
Flagrant has performed in over 100 different venues throughout Australia and has supported countless international artists such as Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Jurassic 5, Lyrics Born, Busta Rhymes, DJ Shadow, Method Man & Redman, Mark Ronson, Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West, DJ Premier and even Kelly Clarkson!
A sought after tour DJ, Flagrant has been the tour DJ for soul sensation and ARIA award winner Daniel Merriweather, Australian Hip-Hop icons Reason (Melbourne) and Brethren (Sydney) and is currently Phrase's official tour DJ.
Always at the forefront of DJ technology, Flagrant has been one of the first DJ's in Australia to embrace video turntablism. With the help of Numark's Virtual Vinyl, Flagrant is now able to cut, scratch and blend music video's right before your eyes and his video remixes are a hit on YouTube generating over 5000+ views!
