DJ D*Phy (formerly known as DefDphy) is a Sydney based DJ, producer and turntablist who initially focused heavily on underground hiphop from all over the world, however more recently has been collecting and playing music within the acid jazz, downtempo electronica and soul genres. D*Phy has been behind the turntables for nearly a decade, constantly elevating his mixing and scratching skills to a higher level whilst working on various mixtapes and live shows with other artists.

2004 marked the release of Mixed Goods Volume One; an 80-minute mixtape featuring local and overseas underground hip-hop mixed and cut up by D*Phy. The follow up tape, Mixed Goods Volume Two was released in 2005 whilst Mixed Goods Volume Three was released in mid 2008 to complete the trilogy. All three mixtapes have been available online for free download and were well received by DJ’s and MC’s all over the world, spawning new collaborations and music based connections regarding upcoming projects.

Throughout the years D*Phy has been a tour DJ for a range of MC's and crews hailing from Sydney, such as Spit Syndicate, Nikkita, Thats Them, Nick Knowledge and BigLu; providing cuts on studio tracks and at live performances. In mid 2005 D*Phy became a member of PureBred, one of Sydneys well respected underground hip-hop promotion teams and artist rosters at the time. Since then D*Phy has networked with a range of promoters, playing at various hip-hop nights, album launches and MC/DJ battles around Sydney for Joint Adventure (Scribble Jam 06, DMC 06), Obese Records (Block Party Sydney), Nurcha Records, and LookUp.

This has led to supporting local crews such as: Lyrical Commission, Milkbar Stars/Pegz, Bliss n Eso, Hyjak & Torcha, Phrase, Muph & Plutonic, Bias-B, Diafrix, Funkoars, and for international acts: People Under The Stairs (US), Planet Asia (US), Ice Cube (US), Eternia (CAN), Ghostface Killah (US), Mystro (UK) Killa Kela (UK) and many more.

In 2008 D*Phy teamed up with Sydney MC Luey Igloo to create a concept mixtape in the form of a tribute to the one and only J Dilla. The 'Ruff Craft Mixtape' was released in 2009 on 100 limited edition audio cassette tapes, staying true to the late Jay Dee's preferred format.

Currently D*Phy is pursuing his musical interest within jazz inspired and lounge based instrumentals, with a new compilation mix due out for late 2010. This mix aims to showcase a range of local producers alongside established beat makers from his record collection, creating a sound scape perfect for any relaxed environment or cocktail lounge setting.
